The school first founded on our site was in 1928 by the Daughters of the Holy Spirit. Over time it morphed into a Catholic High School in the 1950s. In 2002 it was taken over and converted into an international boys boarding school to improve intercultural dialogue and the opportunity to access the best universities within America and worldwide. Students came from a variety of countries worldwide and from a large number of states within America.
Putnam Science Academy is nestled in the quiet corner of Northeast Connecticut. It is located just over one hour from Boston, Massachusetts, and less than an hour from Providence, Rhode Island and Hartford, Connecticut. Our school and campus continue to expand annually. Most recently, we purchased a grand palatial estate that overlooks the Quinebaug River. This building has been transformed into our new Liberal Arts Center and boy's dormitory. It is also where our offices are primarily located. The original school building and girl's dormitory is now our STEM Center where all classrooms for math, science, technology, robotics, and programming are based. This is truly an exciting time for all of us at Putnam Science Academy.
Putnam Science Academy strives to develop young adults, locally and worldwide, who are committed to academic excellence and are engaged citizens. Our goal is to provide a challenging educational program to prepare all students for acceptance into the top universities in the United States and worldwide.
Putnam Science Academy is dedicated to providing quality education to students both domestic and from other countries. We offer a high school diploma with a focus on science and math and other opportunities to hone in on your basketball skills with one of the best prep school basketball teams in the country. Take a variety of classes in our new science lab. Study with peers from other countries and other parts of the United States. Take advantage of the opportunity to make friends from all over the world that only Putnam Science Academy can offer.
Our small class sizes allow us to give you the help and encouragement you need to be successful. Your day will begin an 8 am and end at 2:20 pm. Day students should plan to provide their transportation to and from school. As a day student, you have access to the entire campus, all meals, breakfast, lunch, and dinner if you are staying that late and you are encouraged to join us for any after school or weekend activities or sports that PSA provides.
