La Salle College Preparatory strives to educate and inspire our students to explore, discover, and innovate in and out of the classroom, even after their tenure at the School. From news stories to press releases to social media, La Salle's community is active and engaged in their path to excellence.
Today, nearly 80,000 students in more than 80 countries throughout the world receive their education in Lasallian Schools, which differ significantly in terms of clientele, curriculum, methodology, and social and cultural conditions. These schools are unified in the Lasallian heritage.
At La Salle College Preparatory of Pasadena, we honor this mission in our profound but straightforward effort to produce good students and good people through a comprehensive college preparatory education. By comprehensive, meaning that, at La Salle, each student will find his or her niche inside the classroom and out. With over 20 varsity teams, an outstanding - and award-winning - Visual and Performing Arts program, and a wide array of co-curricular activities, every student entrusted to our care can find a way to nurture their unique attributes. All of this is accomplished in a community environment in which the most common adjective used to describe life at La Salle is the word "family."
Our students are challenged to prepare for college or university and stretch and grow for the personal satisfaction achievement brings. The demanding college-preparatory curriculum boasts thirty Honors or AP sections. Students find opportunities for expression in a broad spectrum of visual and performing arts, as well as our twenty-two team sports.
The School's emphasis on the learning process and the development of a Christ-centered value system drive all aspects of La Salle's community and campus life. So, student leaders in the Student Life Programs are imbued with a service spirit, as all students participate in service projects and opportunities. These range from preparing food for the homeless to mentoring inner-city elementary students for academic achievement.
Saint John Baptist de la Salle told his teachers, "To touch the hearts of your pupils and inspire them with Christian spirit is the greatest miracle you can perform." This Lasallian teaching guides teachers, coaches, and all the adults who mentor our students.
Students typically enter La Salle High School as Freshmen. STS testing, grammar school transcripts, written evaluations, and an optional personal interview are among the criteria evaluated by the Admissions Board. High School transcripts, written evaluations, and a personal interview form the basis for evaluating students applying for other grade levels.
Specific required courses must be completed at La Salle High School during the regular school year. These include the required courses offered in Religious Studies, English, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Science. While summer courses at other institutions may not be used to complete these core courses ahead of schedule, summer courses in these areas may make up for deficiencies already recorded on the transcript. Courses completed before the first semester of ninth grade may not be applied toward graduation units or requirements.
The College Counseling Center at La Salle guides students through their college search beginning in the spring semester of the junior year. Students meet regularly with the same college counselor during their junior and senior years to discuss the college admissions process, including admissions requirements and testing. Additionally, parent/student college information nights are held annually during which all students and their parents are provided general information regarding the admissions process and financial planning for college. Individual meetings with parents regarding college planning are offered as needed throughout the junior and senior years. Colleges from across the country visit La Salle each fall to meet with interested students regarding their programs.
Student Life at La Salle invites every student to live out the School's Lasallian spirit by providing opportunities to grow in one's faith, engage in service experiences, and take an active role in the School's community life. Student Life lives out the mission of the School by nurturing students' faith lives through school-wide liturgies, daily prayer, and a four-year retreat program. Students reach out to the poor and marginalized through service opportunities and immersion trips. We utilize each student's talents through leadership roles in areas such as the Student Life Council, class councils, clubs, retreats, and liturgies.
