La Jolla Country Day School (LJCDS), a community committed to inspiring greatness for a better world. Our unique School is where proven and progressive meet. For nearly 100 years, since 1926, LJCDS has honored and nurtured the founding goal: preparing our children to be leaders in the community. Not only known for our rich history, strong traditions, and national reputation for excellence, LJCDS is also highly regarded for its devotion to its students. We know our students, respect their individuality, and support and love them.
How a student learns may be more important than what a student learns. The journey of education requires the blending of knowledge with the process of synthesizing ideas and creating wisdom. Inspiring greatness nurtures lifelong learners who possess four critical attributes: a strong work ethic, moral character, a commitment to challenge the status quo, and the appreciation that we belong to something greater than ourselves. Furthermore, we are a place where educators thoughtfully expose our students to the world and link them to our students.
Developing habits of the mind and heart in our students is a unique opportunity. Recognized as one of the best private schools in California and San Diego, our students reach unique academic goals and exhibit outstanding artistic and athletic achievements while embracing the attributes of compassion and integrity.
La Jolla Country Day School prepares individuals for a lifetime of intellectual exploration, personal growth, and social responsibility. We are committed to fostering a culture of dignity. The desire to be treated with dignity is universal. Dignity believes that all human beings have value and are vulnerable.
La Jolla Country Day School admits qualified students of any race, color, national or ethnic origin, sex, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, and gender identity to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded made available to students. Consistent with its obligations under the law, La Jolla Country Day School prohibits unlawful discrimination based on race, color, national or ethnic origin, sex, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law in the administration of the School's programs and activities.
As an essential component of our commitment-to-character education, we value an inclusive community committed to equity and justice for all of our constituencies. We welcome all genders, orientations, religions, beliefs, races, cultures, and ethnicities.
The La Jolla Country Day School (LJCDS) community represents students, faculty, staff, and trustees of different cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Currently, 33 percent of our students self-identify as students of color, and 14 percent self-identify as mixed race. We believe a diverse community contributes to a more enriching experience for every adult and student at the School. Many studies conclude that diversity is the key to a thriving and happy environment in both educational and professional settings. As we prepare our students to be global citizens, we work to ensure that every child has the skills and awareness to embrace humanity in all of its diversity.
As we elevate our awareness through inclusive environments, mentorship, partnerships, and dialogue facilitation, we recognize that we do our best work with people from a myriad of perspectives and recognize the importance of mutual respect to help us become conscious citizens make the world a better place.
We believe that when we have compassion for ourselves and others, we can see the potential in every challenge and experience, so we invest in our community's interconnected network by seeking platforms that stretch the understanding of ethnicity, gender, sexuality, religion, and ability.
Schools play an essential role in the partnership of cultivating a child's social, emotional, and intellectual development. From the Early Childhood Center to the Upper School, La Jolla Country Day School (LJCDS) offers students a safe environment to explore, exchange thoughts and ideas, make mistakes, challenge the status quo, develop a work ethic and grow to become the best versions of themselves.
We honor each child as an individual. Therefore the educational journey is nurtured and customized for each student. Our team of educators is deeply invested in knowing and supporting students in and out of the classroom. Our academic program is designed to offer students the skills and tools to succeed in a rapidly changing world and an unknown future. The curriculum fosters critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration while cultivating resiliency, adaptability, self-awareness, and empathy.
