Bergen Catholic is an-all male Roman Catholic high school founded and staffed by the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers and located in the town of Oradell, in Bergen County, New Jersey. Since being founded in 1955, Bergen Catholic has been educating young men, grades 9-12, in Mind, Body, and Spirit and has emphasized educating the whole student. With a commitment to the pursuit of excellence in all aspects of student life, including implementing the latest forms of technology in the classroom, Bergen Catholic High School continues to prepare its students in an ever-changing world. At the same time, Bergen Catholic strengthens each student's faith and social consciousness through the Essential Elements of an Edmund Rice Christian Brother Education.
Bergen Catholic High School is a diverse, Catholic community, which prepares young men to become dynamic global leaders by deepening religious faith, developing academic excellence, and strengthening social consciousness and responsibility under the Essential Elements of an Edmund Rice Christian Brother Education.
Since opening, Bergen Catholic High School has been an exceptional educational ministry of the Congregation of Christian Brothers within the Archdiocese of Newark. We proclaim the Gospel message of Jesus Christ, as brought to us through the Roman Catholic Church's traditions and teachings, through the charism of Blessed Edmund Ignatius Rice, and the embodiment of the Essential Elements of a Christian Brother Education. As a college preparatory community of women and men, Bergen Catholic serves young men in grades 9-12 of various ethnic and socio-economic groups from Bergen County and its vicinity. Students are invited to understand and make their own a gospel vision that holds the person of Jesus as a model and mentor for what it means to grow as a human being. Students are taught to hold the religious, academic, and social dimensions of life in balance, to develop a respect for their gifts and those of others, to understand differences in ideas among people, to use freedom responsibly, and to contribute to the creation of an environment in which all members of the community are welcomed and embraced.
Extracurricular activities play a vital role in our students' daily growth outside of the classroom as they learn to become leaders in their respective sports, clubs, and organizations. These leadership qualities are vital in our young men's general education as they grow to become leaders outside of the Bergen Catholic Community. Our young men and their families can experience all of these opportunities while also joining a family network of over 12,000 alumni worldwide and a brotherhood and family community that has an unmatched bond.
To keep parents informed of their sons' academic progress, parents may check Blackboard for their child's up-to-date grades. Progress Reports are provided four times a year - at the mid-point of each quarter. Report cards are also provided four times a year – after each quarter. Mid-term examinations occur at the end of the first semester, and final examinations occur after the second semester. Parent/Teacher Conferences are held in November and February annually. However, inquiries from parents about their son's progress are always welcomed by members of the faculty.
