Welcome to the Beacon Church of England Primary School. Our school is a happy and successful Church School with our Christian values at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to doing the very best for every one of our pupils, to help them flourish, grow and develop into independent young people with a real love of learning.
Christian values are deeply embedded within the life of the school and have a profound influence on relationships, attitudes, and behavior.
Recognizing its historic foundation, the school will preserve and develop its religious character following the principles of the Church of England and in partnership with the Church at the parish and diocesan levels.
The school aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils.
We have twelve core values that are embedded in the life and work of the school and its community. They are Thankfulness, Trust, Perseverance, Justice, Service, Truthfulness, Generosity, Compassion, Courage, Forgiveness, Friendship, and Respect. We focus on one value each half term over a two-year cycle.
These values are clear in everything we do and how we operate. They reflect the core ideology of our school and do not change over time. The person you are is an expression of these values. They determine how you think and what you do. They shape your purpose and determine your vision. They establish your character and are hugely important to who you are. Values are what we live, breathe and these are reflected in our day-to-day activities.
At the Beacon, our curriculum is built around the National Curriculum. As a church school, our Christian ethos is at the heart of this.
Our curriculum develops the whole person - values, attitudes, knowledge, skills, and understanding. It is broad, balanced, and has clear progression in subject knowledge and skills. Develops childrens' knowledge and understanding of modern-cultural Britain and our diverse community. It is filled with rich first-hand purposeful experiences and uses expertise beyond the classroom. It is flexible and responsive to individual needs and interests.
The Beacon CE Primary School is inclusive. Reading in EYFS and KS1 is taught initially using a systematic, synthetic phonic approach. Phonics is taught daily as a discrete lesson to teach phonics with some resources from reading, Write, Inc. This is a core scheme to teach synthetic phonics which is multi-sensory exciting and engaging. Children are grouped according to the phase they are working at.
During the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 children develop their phonic knowledge and skills and apply these in both reading and spelling. As developing readers, children are encouraged to use a wider range of strategies to aid the decoding of text and to enhance their understanding of material across a range of genres.
