To celebrate the school’s place in the community and wider world. We Aim: To strengthen and develop links within the parish and wider community.
Objectives: To join with the parish and the local community to celebrate special occasions throughout the year. To welcome members of the local community to visit the school to enhance the curriculum on offer. To provide opportunities for the children to visit places of interest for them to come to a better understanding of their lives and the world around them. To participate in charitable activities and to be able to empathize with the needs of others.
Here at St Ambrose Catholic Primary School, we provide a rich, rigorous, and enjoyable curriculum based upon the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and National Curriculum frameworks. We follow a ‘topic-based approach to our curriculum through our International Primary Curriculum. This means wherever possible we group our subjects around the topic.
The International Primary Curriculum is an inquiry-based approach built around questioning, which helps ‘hook’ the children into their learning. It helps teachers make all learning exciting, active, and meaningful for children. Learning with the IPC takes a global approach helping children to connect their learning to where they are living now as well as looking at the learning from the perspective of other people in other countries.
Each year group has a new theme each term or half term. It starts with an entry point designed to hook the children into the learning experience. This may be based around different subject areas usually History and Geography. Through these themes, opportunities are built-in for children to apply other key skills in Art, Design Technology, Computing, and skills in learning together.
At St Ambrose, we believe that every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfill their potential. Children develop quickly in the early years and a child’s experiences between birth and age five have a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe, and happy childhood is important in its own right. Good parenting and high-quality early learning together provide the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. It promotes teaching and learning to ensure children’s ‘school readiness and gives children the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life.
Seven areas of learning and development must shape educational programs in early years settings. All areas of learning and development are important and inter-connected. Three areas are particularly crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships, and thrive. These three areas, known as the prime areas, are Communication and language. Physical development. Personal, social, and emotional development.
We also support children in the four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied. The specific areas are Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, Expressive arts, and design.
