‘Learn To Do Well’ is our long-time philosophy, first originating in the ironwork of the 1881 school gates and still very relevant today as we continue to grow into a two-form entry school. All children have access to an appropriate curriculum that is broad and balanced and differentiated to meet their needs. This enables them to learn to develop the necessary skills to build self-esteem, respect others, defend those in need, resolve conflict without resorting to violence, question, and challenge and make informed choices in later life.
Children and young people are encouraged to express and discuss their ideas, thoughts, and feelings through a variety of activities and have access to a range of cultural opportunities which promote the fundamental British values of tolerance, respect, understanding, and empathy for others. There is access to a range of extracurricular activities, information, and materials from a diversity of sources which not only promotes these values but supports the social, spiritual, moral well-being, and physical and mental health of the pupils.
As the Admissions Authority for the community and voluntary controlled schools in Manchester, the LA is required to draft, consult on, and determine their admission arrangements. Where there are more applicants than places available the LA will apply the admission arrangements to decide which applicants will be offered places. Admission arrangements for voluntary aided schools, foundation schools, free schools, and academies are set by their Governing Body, who are the Admission Authority for their establishment. They are responsible for drafting, consulting on, and determining their admission arrangements. Copies of admissions arrangements for these types of schools/academies in Manchester can be found on the school/academy website and the LA’s website. They are also available on request from the relevant school/academy and the LA.
All parents/carers are required to apply to their home LA regards of where the school/academy they are applying to is situated. Manchester residents will apply to Manchester LA. The LA will liaise with other Admissions Authorities in Manchester and other LAs where required. Manchester LA will inform parent/carers in writing of the outcome of their application
It is a primary aim of our school that every member of the school community feels valued and respected and that each person is treated fairly, justly, and well. We are a caring community, whose values are built on mutual trust and respect for all members of the school can live and work together in a supportive way, to ‘learn to do well. We endeavor to promote an environment where everyone feels happy, safe, and secure so that people can work together with the common purpose of helping everyone to learn.
The Headteacher holds overall responsibility for good discipline in the school, assisted by the Deputy Headteacher and the management team in each department. Significant incidents are also recorded in CPOMS. At St Agnes, staff work in close co-operation with parents to achieve high standards of self-discipline in the children. Sometimes children will be displaying similar challenging behavior at home as at school. We believe much can be achieved when there is a high level of trust and partnership between the parents or carers of the pupils and the staff of the school.
The school must ensure that every child and young person in its care is safe. The same ‘staying safe’ outcomes and principles apply equally to the ‘virtual’ or digital world. This expectation also applies to any voluntary, statutory, and community organizations that make use of the school’s ICT facilities and digital technologies. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils is embedded into the culture of the school and its everyday practice and procedures.
All staff has a responsibility to support e-Safe practices in school and all pupils need to understand their responsibilities in the event of deliberate attempts to breach e-safety protocols. E-safety is a partnership concern and is not limited to school premises, school equipment, or the school day.
Bullying, harassment, or abuse of any kind via digital technologies or mobile phones will not be tolerated and complaints of cyberbullying will be dealt with by the school’s Anti-Bullying and Behaviour Policy. Complaints related to child protection will be dealt with under the school’s Safeguarding Policy.
