We are an 11 – 19 high school with a thriving and successful Sixth Form. We have an intense focus on success and offer excellent facilities, together with strong academic and pastoral support. We have an outstanding team of staff who are united in encouraging students to achieve their curriculum targets and develop respect and consideration for others. This means that expectations about achievement are high and that all students are actively supported to believe that they can achieve. We are committed to producing optimistic young people who feel in control of their lives. We place a high value on our relationship with students and their parents and carers and appreciate the importance of this relationship if success is to be achieved by all. We run a fully inclusive school and recognize that everyone has a vital part to play in developing the school.
The exam profile for our students rises year upon year, and we are continually striving for further improvements. We offer tremendous opportunities for our students both within the curriculum and outside. As a community school, our resources are also made available for community use through our leisure center.
Newall Green High School's sixth form is aimed at meeting the needs of students who are not yet ready for the transition to larger colleges and higher-level courses. Its focus is to prepare students for progression onto further education or apprenticeships.
Since our launch in September 2009, we have developed a range of excellent courses, which focus on the development of basic work-related skills and sector learning. The offer was designed to meet the needs of those 16 years olds that may not be ready for the transition to a large college or higher-level course and those not yet ready for the world of work. We recognize that some students may need a high level of support to build confidence and resilience, they may also need more guidance and help with employability and work-related learning skills. Our sixth form provision places a high emphasis on developing these skills and getting students ready for the next stage pathway.
Our Profession Pathway, which in partnership with local businesses and apprenticeship providers is designed to enhance skills, develop sector-related knowledge and provide a clear route into employment or further training. It is a one-year program focusing on the development of basic work-related skills and sector learning. We utilize our outstanding facilities and draw on the expertise of our staff, many with substantial industry experience.
Our Sixth Form Admissions Policy is based on the principle that there is an appropriate course or program of study accessible for all. Students, existing and prospective, are required to submit an application form and they will be offered an Information, Advice, and Guidance Meeting to help support them in deciding on a program of study that best suits their needs and future aspirations
At Newall Green High School we are committed to providing high-quality educational opportunities for all our students. Newall Green High school is built on and driven by our core values represented by STRIVE. Each letter represents a different value.
Our work ethic grades which are reported to parents along with progress grades also reflect STRIVE. The name highlights the need for our pupils to think about the world of work and to develop the skills required by future employees. The accompanying wording for the Work Ethic Grades makes it clear to students exactly what we expect in our lessons and around School. It is quite challenging for our pupils to achieve a grade 1 – but that is how they will achieve their full potential at Newall Green High School and be in a fantastic position to achieve well in the future.
The pupil premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities and to close the gaps between them and their peers. Schools must publish annually an evaluation of their pupil premium spending for the academic year and also plans to spend for the new academic year.
Our Learning 2 Learn base provides a nurturing environment within the school for students who require extra support for their social and emotional development their progress and achievement are monitored carefully using alternative, nationally developed systems. The SENDCo and other staff consult with parents and students to design Student Profiles showing how best to support individual children we are happy to meet with parents regularly outside of Reviews and Parents Evenings. Students need to make sure they keep themselves safe at all times when online. The policy below is for school and gives you some guidelines. If you are worried about anything when using the internet then tell someone in your family or at school.
