Welcome to Marian Vian's website. I hope you find it informative but, more importantly, it aims to show the energy, enthusiasm, and determination of the children and all the adults that help continue to make our school a happy and successful place to learn.

The school is larger than average for a primary school but has a strong, tight-knit community feeling where every child's efforts are valued, curiosity is fostered and a myriad of exciting experiences are undertaken in a disciplined, respectful atmosphere.

The varied and stimulating experiences that are provided endeavor to make learning fun and memorable whilst always striving for the highest possible standards. I hope the information on our website provides you with an insight into the life of our great school.

The mission statement is underpinned by the following values:

    • Always striving for excellence
    • Communication
    • Personal growth and development
    • Respect
    • Collaboration
    • Leadership
    • Integrity

The staff works together to ensure that children in each year group follow an appropriate curriculum and that this builds on what has been experienced in the previous class. As far as possible we try to start from the children's experience and extend it. This may involve educational outings and school journeys.

Our teachers strive to develop the children's enthusiasm and interest as a basis for learning. Praise and encouragement can do wonders for a child's self-confidence, which has a major impact on progress and development.

Children's work is displayed attractively throughout the school. This not only gives due recognition of the efforts and abilities of all children but also acts as a stimulus to others, motivating them to greater levels of achievement.

We continually try to improve the standard of education by reviewing areas of the curriculum, methods of teaching, assessment procedures, and programs of work. Future planning is determined by our School Improvement Plan which encompasses all aspects of our teaching.

The aims of our curriculum are:

    • To promote spiritual, moral, cultural, social, and physical development of the children
    • To help children acquire the knowledge, skills, and practical abilities which will meet their needs now and in the future.
    • To develop in children a sense of respect for themselves and for others and the ability to co-operate with others.
    • To develop a confident, positive and enthusiastic attitude to life in and out of school.
    • To develop in children an awareness and sensitivity to others' feelings, beliefs, and ideas.
    • To help each child to acquire a set of moral values, self-confidence, and attitudes consistent with high standards of behavior and the development of self-discipline.

Safeguarding and Child Protection is an integral part of life at Marian Vian. This is everyone's responsibility and some key people and organizations can help if you have a concern about a child whether in school or the wider world.
