We are an oversubscribed, high-achieving, mixed, voluntary aided, Jewish faith-based secondary school with a comprehensive intake. We aim to provide excellence through education for the Jewish and Wider Community. We exist to provide a Jewish and quality academic and secular education for Jewish pupils as well as pupils from other faiths in the locality.

The High School is situated on a large Jewish Campus comprising King David High School, King David Primary School, Jewish Youth, and Community Centre and playing fields.

King David High School has a key role to play in the education of young people in Liverpool. Our aims are to:

    • To provide a stimulating and enriching Jewish and secular education for all Jewish children in Liverpool and its surrounding area.
    • To provide an equally stimulating and enriching curriculum for all other pupils of all faiths admitted to the school.
    • To provide a quality inclusive academic education that promotes British values for all our pupils regardless of ability with the individual needs of each pupil at the heart of the Jewish ethos of the school.

Students have been working together to establish what we feel is “The King David Way” – This is, in short, a set of principles and core values that underpin all we do as a school community and center around the school’s Jewish ethos.

We have carried out a comprehensive evaluation of key areas of the high school: Assessment, Teaching and Learning, Sixth Form, Pastoral, and Communication, and looked at ways the core principles can be explicitly subsumed within them.

As part of that process, we have established core values which we are calling “The King David Way”. These will be shared with pupils and the expectation is that all members of the school community embody these principles. Each week staff has the opportunity to nominate pupils who most embody “The King David Way” and their names and reason for nomination will be displayed on the board as a representation of all that is special about our school community.

King David High School attracts almost all of the potential Jewish pupils in the area. Most pupils in King David are of other faiths but it is critical to the future of the School that the Jewish ethos of the School is maintained and indeed strengthened.

It is not simply the formal education process in general Judaism, Bar and Bat Mitzvah Studies, Jewish History or GCSE and A-level courses, but also the sympathetic transmission of the "golden chain" of Jewish tradition. Thus, subjects covered in School are often important in the longer period, e.g. the significance of Shabbat, Kashrut, festival observance, identification positively as being part of the Jewish family, Israel, etc.

There are also a series of visits planned for pupils across all year groups in association with various agencies to extend and deepen the students’ understanding of their Jewish roots. Informal activities are also offered at lunchtime.

At King David High School we take great pride in the range of enrichment opportunities offered to our students. In equal measure students contribute extensively to the school and wider community, developing leadership skills and acting as role models to younger students. There is also a PSHE/ Citizenship period every week from November to July which allows for curriculum enrichment and the delivery of citizenship skills.
