Claremont is a happy and thriving primary school that is proud to serve its local community. Our children, families, staff, and governors come from many different backgrounds and we believe this plays an important part in making Claremont the harmonious, vibrant, and successful school that it is. The school has a strong caring ethos, whilst at the same time having a clear focus on pupils’ learning and progress. Everyone at the school is committed to ensuring that our children feel safe, happy, and valued as well as ensuring they achieve their very best and develop a lifelong love of learning. Claremont Primary School is a two-form entry community school, providing education for over 400 pupils aged between 3 and 11 years old.
At Claremont, we have a strong commitment to meeting the needs of all children. Children may have additional educational needs at any time in their school life and we believe early intervention and full consultation with parents to be of great importance. Our deputy headteacher is our Inclusion Manager and we also have a non-class based teacher, the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO). Both these members of staff work particularly closely with other staff to devise appropriate programs of learning for the children. When necessary, we work in partnership with specialists from other services to support the children’s learning and development. 8 The admissions criteria for entry to Claremont Primary School apply equally to all children, including those who have a disability. Children are not discriminated against because they have a particular need. Where the child has an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP – formerly a statement of special education need) the school will ensure the details of the EHCP are implemented, for example employing suitable staff to provide additional support for the child or undertaking specific programs such as speech and language therapy.
At Claremont, we promote and expect high standards of behavior from both adults and pupils at all times. At the beginning of each school year, every class creates its own set of class rules. Also, we have a whole school Behaviour Code (available on request from the School Office or on our website) which is based around The Claremont Way, and which we expect all members of our community to follow.
We aim to work in partnership with parents and carers. We value parental involvement within the school and see as vital the part you play in your child’s development and attitudes towards learning. Regular newsletters are sent home giving details of events and activities taking place. Each term, class teachers write their newsletter for parents, giving details of the work for that term as well as information about possible class trips, PE days, and when homework will be given.

Provide challenging, stimulating, and creative learning opportunities across the curriculum which engage pupils and motivate them to succeed. Have high expectations of our pupils, enabling them to become confident and successful learners, and to develop skills that will support them through life. Promote high standards of behavior and challenge all forms of bullying and discrimination. Work as a team of staff, parents, governors, and other members of the community to provide the best possible opportunities and achieve the best possible outcomes for all our pupils.
