Booker Juniors is a thriving school with a rich tradition of sport, arts, and high standards in many curriculum areas. It is a welcoming, happy place where children and staff work well together and treat each other with respect. Children here can access a high-quality education as well as a broad range of extracurricular activities, trips, and residential visits. We celebrate success, in whatever form it takes, and aim to support and enable all pupils to reach their full potential.

The last two years have seen the school improve standards further in several areas with a large proportion of pupils leaving Year 6 having reached high levels of achievement and many of our pupils and teams succeeding in the sporting arena. Over the past year, we have also greatly improved the resources at the school which enables children to work with portable technology and we are excited to see the potential for making their learning more enjoyable.

"We at Booker Avenue Junior School are pledged to the building of a center of excellence in which all contributing individuals are encouraged to develop their maximum potential."

At Booker Juniors, we hold values that are common with the values of our country as a whole. We actively promote these values to support our pupils in becoming responsible members of society.

As well as promoting British Values, we actively teach the children in our school about a range of values which make our school and society a better place in which to live. Each half term, we explore a different value through our assemblies and class sessions. We also reward children who have shown these values in their conduct and attitude.

The Charanga Musical School Scheme enables children to understand music concepts through a repetition-based approach to learning.

Each year group follows units of work, each of which includes the following key elements:

    • Listen and Appraise
    • Musical Activities allow the children to play games, sing, play instruments, improvise and compose
    • Perform/Share

Throughout the school, classes are organized in year groups with each class being of equal status and working to the same curriculum programs of study in all subjects. For Maths the classes will be 'set' to allow for more focussed teaching to take place. There are an accelerated Maths group and 2 groups of mixed ability children. To allow for even more support, we also have a nurturing intervention group named "The Haven". Alongside our Daily Maths Lesson, children are involved in many small or one-to-one intervention groups more tailored to their specific needs or gaps in their understanding.

Since November 2016, we are adopting the 'Talk for Writing' approach to our English lessons. Changing our approach to teaching English will be a two-year process, involving working closely with 'Talk for Writing consultants. 'Talk for Writing is powerful because it enables children to imitate the language they need for a particular topic, orally, before reading and analyzing it and then writing their version. It builds on 3 stages.

Each week we want to celebrate the work, effort, behavior, and achievement of the children. Every class teacher chooses a child to receive the 'Star of the Week award which is then celebrated in a whole school assembly.

At Booker, we believe the more opportunities the children have in school, the better their educational experience will be. We, therefore, offer a wide range of extra activities.
