At Welkin College School (SIS Canada), we are proud of the unique opportunity we provide for students to enjoy a supportive and challenging high school experience. One of our strengths at Welkin College School (SIS Canada) that we are proud of is our commitment to a rigorous academic curriculum that adequately prepares students for success at post-secondary schools. In our classes, we strive to achieve that perfect balance of intellectual challenge, application of knowledge, and collaborative learning. Our graduates have consistently succeeded at the university or institutes they have attended due to their having attended Welkin College School (SIS Canada).
We are living in a time when flexibility is recognized as a great strength. Welkin College School (SIS Canada) is all about flexibility in that we offer an optional trimester approach to studying. Why spend three years in high school when you can complete it in two? The time you save could be put towards jumping into post-secondary or pursuing something if required to attend regular classes. At Welkin College School (SIS Canada) we offer students and families greater choice in determining when to finish secondary school. Every student is different and deserves to be recognized as an individual. With our small class sizes and caring approach, students at Welkin College School (SIS Canada) feel like they are a part of a large extended family. Time and care are taken to regularly check in with each student to be sure they are feeling supported and are on track to developing a strong self-awareness and positive self-image. One's teenage years can be a time of happiness and self-discovery at Welkin College School (SIS Canada).
Life at Welkin College School (SIS Canada) is all about building friendships, being the best student one can be, and engaging in character-building adventures. On school-day evenings, students have time to work together on their school projects and homework in a setting that is social and yet studious. On the weekends, students can join in on activities that take them away from the residence to explore the local area and enjoy some personal freedom. At Welkin College School (SIS Canada) students live a balanced life between spending time with friends, focusing on schoolwork, and pursuing activities conducive to a healthy mind and body.
Welkin College School (SIS Canada) offers boarding for all of its students in a safe dormitory situated on a reasonably secluded property surrounded by sprawling grassy lawns, abundant trees, and shallow creeks. When not studying, students are encouraged to walk the grounds enjoying the deer, birds, and rabbits that also inhabit the grounds. Welkin College School’s residence is co-ed with dining times and supervised social times allowing for our male and female students to interact. However, it is also organized into segregated living quarters.
Welkin College School (SIS Canada) is situated in the cozy town of Coombs, British Columbia right beside a tranquil body of flowing water called French Creek. Coombs is an ideal location for a school because it is safe, quiet, clean, and friendly. Our students regularly visit the markets and shops of Coombs where they are warmly greeted as members of the small community. Our student residence is located in the town of Parksville. Parksville is a mid-sized Vancouver Island town that offers picturesque beaches, parks, restaurants, and shops. Not far from our school and residence is the sizeable city of Nanaimo that offers a variety of community centers, special interest clubs, theaters, shopping, and a ferry to the city of Vancouver for occasional excursions. Nanaimo is just big enough to give students their big city fix but not so big as to present typical big-city dangers. Nanaimo also offers an airport with connecting flights to Vancouver making international travel nice and easy.
Mid Vancouver Island in general is an ideal location for a boarding school in that it is renowned for its majestic natural setting, fresh ocean air, and absence of the distractions of city life. The “Island”, as it is commonly known, is revered by all Canadians for its relaxed, unhurried lifestyle, friendly inhabitants, and splendid scenery. What better place to spend one’s formative years?
