The Anglo-American School of Moscow is chartered by the American, British, and Canadian Embassies in Moscow through the aegis of a School Board. The director of the school, along with the principals of the elementary school, middle school, and high school, manages the day-to-day operation.
The Anglo-American School of Moscow, founded in 1949, is an independent, coeducational day school in northwest Moscow that offers an international educational program from pre-Kindergarten (4-year-olds) through grade 12. The international student body of approximately 1200 students represents over 60 countries. Class sizes typically range from 16-18 students. Our faculty consists of 150 qualified and experienced educators and 13 administrators, principally from the US, UK, and Canada.
AAS is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the International Baccalaureate Organization. Accreditation demonstrates the high-quality education offered at AAS exceeds the high standards set out by these institutions, preparing our students to excel in their further education at schools and universities worldwide. In addition, AAS is also a member of the National Association of Independent Schools, the European Council of International Schools, and the Central and Eastern European Schools Association.
Empowering each student to achieve individual academic and holistic excellence. At the heart of all things AAS, our learners, who represent over 64 nationalities, can be found, each with their unique learning prints. To serve each one and all collectively, our commitment can be seen in our approach to creating rigorous, engaging, and relevant learning experiences that best prepare them for their futures outside of school.
Our framework for learning, called Learning at AAS, is a philosophical stance, the set of program and components, and an essential lens for determining, developing, and enriching the transformational processes of teaching and learning that optimize our students’ experiences. Educational research continues to provide key insights into how the brain learns, essentially how we best learn. AAS bases its learning engagements on the latest research in the neuroscience of teaching and learning.
The AAS curriculum is defined by three distinct components, the specific learning targets which set what we want our students to be able to understand, know, do, and be more simply put, the WHATs of learning the practices and tools used to determine if the students have achieved the learning targets and expectations, more simply put, the HOW WE KNOW of learning and the methodologies used to instruct and engage students to ensure their success more simply put, the HOWs of learning.
The Anglo-American School of Moscow empowers each student to respect self and others, love learning, and contribute as a globally aware citizen to achieve individual academic and holistic excellence. AAS Moscow fosters strong partnerships between students, parents, and educators with a focus to prepare each student for the ever-accelerating world, which requires students to become self-directed learners, teachers, and learners who strive to collaborate towards a better future. Our community is an international family from over 60 countries united in a partnership to ensure each student reaches their full potential. We welcome and support each new member of our community with a certainty that we can learn from each other and achieve more together.
