Stafford Sri Lankan School Doha was inaugurated in October 2001. SSLSD is an approved educational institute by the Supreme Education Council of Qatar and is known as the Sri Lankan Community School. The school is also an Approved Examination Centre by Edexcel International (UK) which grants students to sit for Edexcel IGCSE and GCE examinations. In the beginning, the school was a nursery with 25 students and over the years it has vastly progressed.
SSLSD now offers education from Lower Reception to Advanced Level. The school follows the Edexcel Curriculum. Students in Year 2 & Year 6 sit for the Key Stage I & II (SAT) examinations administered by Edexcel U.K. Montessori methods are used to enhance independent learning in Lower Reception classes as it invites children to engage in learning activities of their own choice, under the guidance and expertise of their teachers. Children in the Lower Reception learn through discovery, using materials to cultivate ideas and self-discipline.
SSLSD is blessed with well-qualified and experienced teachers to train and guide the children. The school is very keen on collaborating education with the latest technologies. Each classroom is equipped with an interactive board and a computer connected to the Internet.
At Stafford, students are also encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities including sports and aesthetics. School believes that engaging in these activities will develop the personality of the students and broaden their thinking patterns. SSLSD strives to achieve excellence in every aspect, in the end, students become successful men and women contributing towards the betterment of society.
Our mission is to develop all students within a spirit of nationalism and internationalism, through the medium of English, giving them the knowledge, skills, and attitudes essential to enable them to be useful citizens for society. The entire education program includes both curricular and co-curricular activities focuses on the four pillars of education for the 21st century as expounded by the UNESCO Learning to live, Learning to Do, Learning to know, and Learning to be.
Stafford Sri Lankan School Doha remains dedicated to maintaining cost-effectiveness while upholding a strict standard for excellence. While admission rates are constantly growing, the capacity to accommodate newly enrolled students is the latest challenge we face. We have leased a plot of land from the State of Qatar and it is just a matter of time before we begin construction work on the new campus to accommodate 1500 students. Our services as the Board of Trustees of the School are voluntary. We do not seek financial rewards. We have diligently watched SSLSD grow as we prepare students to have a sense of integrity, upholding spiritual values, social responsibility, intellectuality, and live-cultured lives that are worthy of the School’s motto – “strive for excellence”.
Our strength is our staff and the commitment of community leaders. The community will develop around the School, not allowing their agenda to hinder the progress of the School. We hope to abide by the education guidelines stated by the State of Qatar and at the same time become leaders in an innovative sustainable education system. We would like to strengthen the ethical pillars on which the School is built. Even in our absence in the future, she will follow the core values – Growth, Flexibility, Transparency, and Abandonment-the ability to ‘abandon’ outdated ideas and methodology for new world trends. The future of our students cannot be strengthened solely by what our School offers. The Sri Lankan Education system especially government universities that offer valuable free education should integrate these children into their system in the event they are to return to Sri Lanka. These children should be treated with respect taking into consideration their parents’ contribution to foreign revenue for the country.
SSLSD follows the London Edexcel Curriculum. Emphasis is given to activity-based and project-based learning. All these curricular and co-curricular activities direct towards the total development of the student’s personality to suit the international community.
