The British International School Cairo is a not-for-profit school with charitable status. It is owned by a perpetual trust of current parents who are members of The British International School Society (BISS). Board members are elected by and responsible to the BISS, by its constitution. Officials from the Ministry of Social Affairs oversee the BISS AGM and independent auditors regulate the Society’s financial affairs. Communication with parents occurs via the AGM, direct bulletins, and through a dedicated email address.
To fulfill their responsibilities the Board relies on a secretary to administer meetings, to prepare minutes, etc. for its full board and its sub-committees. There are several Committees each with its own Chairman. The Finance Sub-Committee (FSC) looks at the School’s financial performance and how funds can be made available for fulfilling the School's development aspirations. The FSC meets termly. The Education Sub-Committee (ESC) receives reports about the School’s academic performance and extra-curricular activities and spends time considering the quality of teaching and learning. The ESC meets monthly.
The full board also meets termly though there may be additional, special meetings during the year. Their key function, collectively, is to set and monitor the aims of the School and to receive reports from the committees for additional discussion. Please view our current Board members under Our Community/Our Directors.
