Riada American School, a leading institution of education, opened on its present site, a distinctive, architect-designed group of buildings, in 2005. Located in a central, peaceful part of Alexandria, the school provides a safe and environment for nearly five hundred students every year. In architecture and design, the School is modern and purpose-built. RAS offers the American curriculum for grades K-12. RAS is accredited by the Egyptian Ministry of Education as a co-educational, university/college preparatory school, which adheres to the American curriculum and grants the American High School Diploma. Additionally, RAS is accredited by AdvancED. RAS firmly believes that a small class size is highly conducive to learning. Small class size allows the teacher the opportunity to address individual academic needs, and to tailor teaching to each student's learning style. RAS believes in self-renewal and searching out best practices so that our students may participate in a rich, educational experience. Our students, in turn, are active, intelligent, and creative learners. These positive attitudes unite us across all levels at RAS. Our parents are our partners in the education of their children. Parents volunteer in classrooms, are active in the Parent Teacher Organization and lend their voices to our students’ education.
RAS students receive support from a school counselor who has access to information about a student's classes, grades, and extracurricular activities. The college counselor can help students see the big picture when it comes to planning their academic future and finding a suitable college or university in Egypt or abroad. RAS offers an enriched, competitive, college preparatory education. We believe a complete curriculum should begin at the earliest possible level. This is why computers and foreign language learning start in the elementary years. We want our students to appreciate learning as a life-long opportunity.
RAS is a college preparatory school where students are challenged to follow a rigorous course of study. For a student to graduate and receive a diploma, she/he must accumulate a minimum of 26 Carnegie units between the 9th and 12th grades to be eligible for graduation. RAS does not grant an American High School Diploma to students who do not have 12 years of formal schooling, grades 1-12.
RAS is up-to-date, following the latest trends in technology. Our computer department consists of three labs. The School has a multi-media room that is equipped with sound and video systems. The school provides a well-furnished and equipped library. The library is provided for students and teachers to encourage them to read, conduct research and projects in all Curriculum subjects. In addition to text and reference books, the library is supplied with a large collection of educational and cultural audio/visual materials.
RAS provides counseling services for socio-psychological adjustment for students. The counselors help students identify their identities according to their abilities. In addition, the departments help parents and teachers deal with students according to their developmental stages and individual differences. RAS provides health care services through offering first aid, regular screenings, medication and treatment, health counseling and education, and supporting students acquiring self-care habits.
Riada American School is fully accredited by AdvancED: “Advancing Excellence in Education Worldwide.” AdvancED’s accreditation process is designed on a standards-based framework to feed continuous improvement and transform education on a global scale.
