In October 1990 the Modern English School Cairo opened its doors with only 28 students enrolled. The school began with the pioneering vision of a group of educators led by Mr. Nabeel Dajani and Mrs. Sawsan Dajani. Its reputation and standing in the community grew quickly and as the school population increased, improved facilities were built, culminating in a recent move to an impressive state-of-the-art campus in New Cairo. In a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, the students are encouraged to care for one another and the world around them.

MES Cairo is a real international community where the current enrolment of 2076 students aged 3.2 to 18 from 30 nations study together purposefully. Fully established, MES Cairo continues to develop with increased specialist teaching, a strong Learning Development Department, and further exciting Secondary options.

Our school community consists of thousands who have lived, learned, taught, worked, and grown together over the years and have formed a special familial bond that is both unique and resilient. It has flourished and grown into something that encompasses connections over time, distance, and generations. As a school that prides itself on continuous improvement, our sights are firmly set on surpassing the very many successes of the last academic year. And we are ready: the school site is fresh from its summer make-over, the staff is feeling energized and invigorated, and our student community is eager to be cared for, challenged, and inspired once again.

Modern English School Cairo is a learning community that provides high-quality education for children from Foundation Stage 1 to university entrance level, serving the needs of Egyptian and international families in Cairo. Our broad education is based upon the British Curriculum in Primary. In Secondary, we offer a choice between a British Curriculum, an American Curriculum, and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Arabic and Religious Studies are taught throughout the school. We believe in:

    • Recognizing the value of each individual and his/her relationship with others.
    • Promoting international understanding and responsible citizenship in a multicultural context, reflecting the best of Arab, Western, and other world cultures.
    • Providing a supportive, inspiring environment that encourages learners to aim high and achieve their aspirations.
    • Creating opportunities for all to develop confidence, responsibility, and integrity.

Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Department is a warm, caring, inspiring hub of activity and wonder. The EYFS environment supports all forms of learning, encouraging children to use their gross and fine motor skills in exciting and fun ways. We are fully committed to developing each child, encouraging independence and confidence in their abilities. Children are given choices and self-selection of activities is at the heart of learning in our Early Years.

Children are encouraged to engage with their environment by playing and exploring, being involved in active learning, and creating and thinking critically. These elements of development underpin learning and support children to be effective and motivated learners, in a safe and warm learning environment.
