Situated in the coastal city of Alexandria, GEMS Academy Alexandria (GAA) was established in 2011 and offers a high-quality education system from Pre-play to Year 7 (British Division) and from Petite Section to CM2 (French Division). Our current enrollment is 552 / between 2.5 – 12.5 years.
GAA only employs highly qualified and experienced expatriate class teachers who are responsible for delivering the core subjects as well as being responsible for pastoral care. Our classrooms are bright, spacious, and well ventilated and we like to keep our class sizes small so that each child has better access to learning. At GAA we have a 2-adult per class policy at all times in each of our classes, we always have a teacher and a teaching assistant available to ensure that the academic and social needs of your child are catered for.
At GAA we firmly believe that for children to learn effectively they need to be encouraged to participate in both inquiry and project-based learning. We have an open library, access to both ICT and science laboratories and as part of our physical education curriculum, we have two gymnasiums as well as a sports area where the children have access to a variety of sporting activities.
To display our children’s talents we have a music room and a two-tier auditorium to present their performances, exhibitions, competitions, and dramatic performances. We actively encourage parent-teacher communication to develop and maintain an effective home-school partnership. We have regular communication throughout the academic year with parents and we also have parent-teacher conferences.
Our dedicated team at GEMS Academy Alexandria continually endeavor to strengthen our current successes by continuing to build effective relationships with parents, students, staff, and community partners alike. At GAA we provide a broad and balanced curriculum in all areas of the school which all offer differentiated learning opportunities for each student to inspire and challenge them with engaging experiences. Our education team makes every effort to promote ambition, innovation, and inclusion throughout the whole school.
At GAA in the EYFS (Early year foundation stage) the children follow the EYFS curriculum of the UK. The EYFS sets standards for the learning development and care of children. It gives all professionals a set of common principles and commitments to deliver quality early education and childcare experiences to all children.
At GAA the primary school follows the Cambridge primary curriculum. Cambridge primary gives schools a world-class curriculum to develop learner skills and understanding in English, Mathematics, and Science. It enables teachers to assess children’s learning as they progress.
We know that, as a parent, your child’s educational success and prospects are your highest priority. Every child at GEMS will receive a world-class education, delivered by internationally qualified and highly experienced teachers. In addition, our class sizes will remain small (ranging from 11 to 25 children in each class), so you may rest assured that your child will receive the dedicated attention of a highly qualified and committed professional.
A student graduating from GEMS (at the age of sixteen or seventeen) will leave with internationally recognized qualifications (such as IGCSEs and/or the International Baccalaureate Diploma) which are highly respected by every university throughout the world. A student gaining the highest grades in these qualifications will be welcomed by the very best of these institutions, including those in the both UK and the USA.
At GEMS Academy we aim to educate the whole child: we wish every child to achieve his or her potential in all its richness. We are therefore committed to the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental, and physical development of pupils, offering a wide range of academic and other opportunities throughout each day. Our teachers encourage all students to take pride both in themselves and their school community, to treat everyone with kindness and respect, and to apply their growing skills as critical thinkers to their daily lives. In this way, we hope to prepare all our students for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences they will encounter in later life. At GEMS, every child matters.
GAA requires teachers to set high expectations for every student and to provide suitably challenging activities for children of all abilities in every lesson. Lessons are carefully planned with this aim in mind, and teachers use rigorous and continuous assessment to set targets for each child which are deliberately ambitious, while carefully tailored to each individual’s academic ability and potential.
