Established in Cairo for over 7 years, Dover American International School in Egypt (DAIS) was inaugurated in 2010. In partnership with the school community, we intend to provide eligible students, primarily from the Middle East and living in the Greater Cairo area, with a rigorous and challenging American and international preparatory education. Our school has developed a very conducive learning environment that is founded on respect, responsibility, and results. During every step of our student's academic journey, we strive to provide the finest American educational instruction while cultivating a passion for learning, a capacity for critical thinking, and a sense of civic responsibility. Our curriculum follows American Common Core national standards and is designed to prepare students for entry into highly competitive universities. Inquiry and problem-solving approaches to curriculum implementation are utilized. We believe that active learners need to develop critical thinking skills to have ongoing success. Life is rapidly evolving. Our students will graduate with the vision, knowledge, and skills to lead and succeed in their ever-changing world. Our challenging academic program also provides many opportunities outside of the classroom. Students at all levels participate in extra-curricular activities. In addition to several sports, sample activities include Student Council, peer tutoring, and Model United Nations (MUN). Our program embraces the fine arts and music. Both are profiled in our annual shows, art exhibits, and choirs. We aim to educate the whole child. A tradition of educational excellence drives our future.

Analysis, integration, and application of knowledge are critical aspects of our curriculum delivery. Along with academic achievement, we emphasize the importance of the development of character, leadership, and service. Our curriculum is developed through collaborative planning and is based on the Common Core State Standards as well as the Virginia State Standards and the Ministry of Education (Egypt) curricula. The school has an established curriculum review, development, and implementation cycle. Curriculum maps are developed with corresponding unit plans. Alignment is found in the maps, unit plans, lesson plans as well as assessments. Staff track progress and alter planning as demonstrated by student need. Time is provided for grade meetings as well as subject-specific meetings with coordinators. Rigor is valued as evident in the common usage of Bloom’s Taxonomy of Learning Needs in each division. Topics and instructional strategies strive for maximum student engagement in the learning process. Project-based learning, as well as cooperative learning, permit individual students to investigate in-depth related and relevant topics of interest. Our goal is to prepare our students for entry into highly competitive universities in Egypt and abroad. Inquiry, critical thinking, and problem-solving approaches to curriculum delivery are utilized in our classrooms.
