We are a multi-denominational, provincially accredited, SCSBC & ACSI affiliated independent Christian school. MCS was founded on a vision of providing Dawson Creek Christian families with a beautiful Christ-centered alternative to the public school system. Our aim and goal are to continue this vision as we unite with families to provide not just Christian education but excellent Christian education to our students.
Mountain Christian School is committed to supporting Christian families in the Academic, Personal, Social, Physical, and Spiritual development of their children by using Biblical principles to graduate responsible, growing disciples of Jesus Christ. He will glorify God through a life of service to God and others.
The primary program is the foundation for learning at Mountain Christian School. In K-Grade 3, we foster a caring environment where we strive to meet each child's individual needs. We employ a phonics-based approach to literacy. Children learn to identify letter sounds and then blend letter sounds to read words, sentences, and books! We collaborate with our parents/guardians to foster a love for reading. Early numeracy skills are developed with hands-on learning activities and manipulatives. The little school emphasizes the importance of play for young children. Play allows children to develop self-regulation and cooperation, problem-solving skills, and flexible thinking.
A specialist teaches Spanish, and we also include music, art, daily physical education, and information technology using school-owned devices, such as Chromebooks. Under the guidance of our educators, our VBS program (Bible School program) fosters students' relationship with God, development, leadership skills, and social awareness. The school offers extended activities such as outdoor education trips, and guest presenters offer unique learning experiences. Parent involvement is encouraged, with parent-teacher conferences, volunteer opportunities throughout the year, and the interactive app CLASSDOJO to communicate with teachers.
Junior school at MCS provides a loving, caring, and safe environment for our students. Our students benefit from well educated, informed, and dedicated teachers and support staff. Our goal is to impact students in the core areas of communication, personal awareness and responsibility, positive personal and cultural identity, social responsibility, creative thinking, and critical thinking from a Christian perspective. Digital literacy is another component of our Junior School, which prepares students for a technological world. Our students use Chromebooks to build digital skills, access information, and learn to communicate and collaborate. We also provide our students with the opportunity and tools to develop their strengths. Our junior students can discover their creative side by expressing themselves through art, music, and drama. Spanish is another language offered at MCS. In our Bible program, students will learn about God's word, scripture, prayer, Bible books, and how to care for others.
Students are encouraged to join track and field, soccer, basketball, and croquet. At MCS, we also offer outdoor education trips, and guest presenters offer unique learning experiences. Some of our highlights are a trip to Edmonton and Science World and camping at Camp Saginaw. Parent involvement is encouraged, with parent-teacher conferences, volunteer opportunities throughout the year, and interactive discussions with the teachers using CLASS DOJO.
Our High School consists of a robust, biblically integrated program that introduces students to concepts in various disciplines. As students move through our program, their strengths and skills are developed, and students are given the opportunity for leadership roles in their grade 11 and 12 years. Our program follows Mountain Christian's mission of supporting students in their academic, personal, physical, and spiritual growth.
MCS is partnering with Key Learning Centre to offer ITA approved work experience and apprenticeship courses AS WELL AS Northern Lights College to participate in the 12-week YETS program worth 16 credits.
