We are a Foundation to Year 12, co-educational Christian School situated in the rural township of Balaklava. At Horizon, we understand that your child’s education is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. We seek to provide our students with quality education, Christ-centered core values, and life skills that will provide them with the foundation for future success in all that they pursue.

Australia needs young men and women who have grown up in a secure but challenging environment with biblical values that last. In a rapidly changing world, which places increasingly complex demands on the individual, there is a need for young men and women who can be leaders and stand up for what they know is right.

Our children must have knowledge, flexibility, and determination to succeed. We want them to be young men and women with love in their hearts, caring concern for others, and the character to achieve whatever goals they might set for themselves. Among the young people who have this capacity will be those who have learned to respect themselves and others and to love God and their fellow human beings.

Horizon Christian School aims to develop students’ values and leadership potential in a caring and Christian environment through committed Christian teachers’ work. We also encourage positive attitudes toward staff, schoolwork, and life in general. We foster the development of close associations with parents regarding their child’s progress at school.

Horizon Christian School cares about its students being able to grow up with positive values to be fine citizens of the Kingdom of God in Australia.

    Our school aims to:

    • Provide a curriculum, which is its basis, direction, and structure gives expression to the Christian view of life.
    • Foster a cooperative and beneficial relationship between children, family, and teachers and the Christian and wider community
    • Encourage the development of Christian attitudes, respect for others, caring, sharing, and tolerance
    • Develop the spiritual, social, academic, and physical potential of each child fully
    • Provide a caring environment to encourage appreciation of learning and creativity
    • Assist in the development of knowledge and understanding needed for future study and community involvement
    • Teach students to think and work independently and cooperatively and learn practical communication skills
    • Give recognition and approval to all degrees of improvement and achievement as well as the attainment of excellence.
    • Foster a joy of living

Horizon Christian School began in 1994 at its temporary site in the Balaklava Church of Christ facilities with 27 students. In the first school term of 1994, the students moved into the first building at the Gwy Terrace site. A requirement for new non-government schools in 1994 was that 50 students were an absolute minimum number required to secure any State or Commonwealth Government funding.

The last student enrolment was welcomed to Horizon on the last day possible to achieve this 50 student milestone by midyear census in 1994. The school steadily grew from strength to strength, and its secondary enrolment began in 2001. Horizon Christian School is now registered as a Reception to Year 12 School with approximately 400 students.
