The opportunity: 

As an Automation Lead in our Technology Consulting, TC Managed Services team, you'll lead quality engineering initiatives across modern insurance platforms. Based in Melbourne or Sydney in a hybrid role, you'll shape quality strategy across multiple squads and releases, embedding quality from requirements through production deployment. 

You'll champion end-to-end assurance across customer-facing digital platforms, Guidewire applications, APIs and integrated enterprise systems. You'll also lead automation and quality transformation using Playwright, AI-assisted testing, intelligent automation and modern engineering practices, while mentoring QA teams and partnering with business and technology stakeholders across Policy, Claims, Billing, Underwriting and Digital Insurance. 

Your Key Responsabilities 

• Define and execute test strategies, test plans, quality gates and release-readiness activities across multiple projects and delivery streams. 

• Lead functional and automation testing teams, providing mentoring, coaching and technical guidance. 

• Manage end-to-end Functional, Integration, System, Regression, UAT, API and Automation testing. 

• Drive adoption of Playwright automation frameworks and establish automation standards, best practices and governance. 

• Own test estimation, resource planning, execution tracking, requirements traceability, test coverage and defect management. 

• Review test plans, scenarios, automation scripts, evidence and defect quality to support delivery excellence. 

• Collaborate with Business Analysts, Product Owners, Architects and Engineering Leads to strengthen coverage and mitigate risk. 

• Oversee validation of Quote, Policy, Claims, Billing, Renewals, Endorsements and Underwriting workflows. 

• Validate end-to-end customer journeys across web applications, Guidewire platforms, APIs and third-party integrations. 

• Drive the automation roadmap to improve regression coverage, execution efficiency, release confidence and return on investment. 

• Lead Automation and AI Proofs of Concept and evaluate emerging testing tools, frameworks and engineering practices. 

• Establish quality metrics, dashboards and reporting that provide clear visibility of delivery health, defect trends and release readiness. 

• Embed continuous testing, shift-left practices and quality gates across CI/CD pipelines. 

• Drive root-cause analysis and continuous improvement to reduce recurring defects and defect leakage. 

• Oversee cloud testing strategy, test environments and test data validation across integrated applications, APIs and downstream systems. 

• Communicate quality outcomes, risks, recommendations and readiness assessments to senior stakeholders. 

Skills and attributes for success 

• Demonstrated leadership of Functional Testing and Quality Engineering teams in complex enterprise environments. 

• Strong capability in Guidewire Insurance Suite testing, including integration, API and end-to-end validation. 

• Demonstrated knowledge of Property & Casualty insurance processes across Quote, Policy, Claims, Billing and Underwriting. 

• Strong capability in test strategy, planning, estimation, risk management, governance and release readiness. 

• Experience managing testing across Agile, SAFe and hybrid delivery models and across multiple workstreams and releases. 

• Proven capability building and scaling Playwright automation frameworks and reusable automation components. 

• Strong knowledge of UI, API, Integration and End-to-End testing methodologies. 

• Experience driving AI-assisted testing, intelligent automation and quality engineering transformation. 

• Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders and influence delivery decisions. 

• Strong understanding of software development life cycles, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps and cloud-native or containerised environments. 

• Capability defining quality KPIs, dashboards, defect trends and continuous-improvement actions. 

• Demonstrated ability to mentor QA Engineers, Senior Testers, Automation Engineers and Test Analysts. 

• Hands-on capability with Playwright, API automation, Java, Rest Assured, Jira, Xray, Azure DevOps and test management tools. 

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, leadership and decision-making skills. 

Ideally, you'll also have the skills and attributes below but don't worry if you don't tick all the boxes. We're interested in your aptitude, attitude and willingness to learn. 

• Experience leading Guidewire Cloud transformation and modernisation programs. 

• Exposure to Generative AI, AI-assisted test automation, self-healing frameworks and predictive quality engineering. 

• Experience establishing enterprise-wide automation standards or QA Centres of Excellence. 

• Exposure to AWS, Azure or GCP. 

• Experience supporting large-scale digital transformation in insurance or financial services. 

• Knowledge of performance testing, observability, service virtualisation and production quality assurance. 

• Experience facilitating Communities of Practice, QA Guilds or engineering-excellence initiatives. 

• Relevant certifications such as ISTQB Test Manager, SAFe Agilist, Agile Testing or cloud certifications.
