Wyoming Seminary, also known as "Sem," is an independent day and boarding school located within a few hours of New York, Philadelphia, and Baltimore. We are close to recreational areas for skiing, hiking, and water sports, within minutes of world-class dining, have access to sporting events, major musical acts, and the amenities of a more populous downtown area.

Sem has two campuses: the Lower School in Forty Fort (toddler through grade and the Upper School in Kingston (grade nine through postgraduate). Sixty percent of faculty live on campus, and seventy-nine percent hold advanced degrees. In the classroom, more than 150 courses are offered, and many electives are unique to Sem. A cutting-edge creative arts facility is the home to our vibrant arts program, and Sem has three new state-of-the-art sports facilities for our athletic program. Additionally, students choose from over 30 clubs and activities to suit nearly every interest.

Sem is a microcosm of the national and global community. Every year, we are home to more than 100 international students from over 20 countries. This diversity enables students to develop a global perspective that will be essential for success in the future and creates friendships that last a lifetime. Wyoming Seminary's school motto, "Verum, Pulchrum, Bonum," not only served as the guiding spirit of Wyoming Seminary in 1844 but remains the words by which we live today.

The values expressed in Sem's motto distinguish us. They express the Sem difference: we dare to teach students the truth that character matters, we emphasize the importance of friendships with others who look and think differently. We stand for something, and we are proud of it.

Perhaps this results from our confident history as one of America's oldest continuously coeducational boarding schools, founded in 1844 at a time when schools with high moral aspirations were called "seminaries." Or it could result from our location, nestled in northeast Pennsylvania's beautiful Wyoming valley, known as "the valley with a heart," where a safe, family-oriented environment supports self-discovery. Wyoming Seminary's picturesque setting includes buildings on the National Register of Historic places as well as state of the art 600-seat Kirby Center for the Creative Arts, which recently hosted the 2015 Pulitzer Prize-winning oratorio, "Anthracite Fields." Our students thrive in the small city environments of Kingston and Wilkes-Barre, only two hours from New York City and Philadelphia.

At Sem, we appreciate the beauty of compelling individuals with original ideas. Our outstanding faculty delivers an exciting lineup of classes, including an impressive array of creative electives that support independent thought. Here you will find that one of the lead actors in the school musical is also President of the "Nerdvana" club. One of our tops, nationally ranked wrestlers, also have expressed a passionate interest in pottery.

After graduation, Sem graduates span the globe. Our international alumni base includes courageous, independent thinkers: a former U.S. Poet Laureate, professionals who have worked in both the Reagan and Clinton White Houses, and American developmental psychologist Howard Gardner, creator of the theory of multiple intelligences.
