Visitation Academy is an independent, Catholic school offering a coeducational early childhood program and an all-girls environment in Grades 1-12. The Lower School educates toddlers- through Kindergarten-aged boys and girls in the Montessori method while also providing the area's only all-girls program in Grades 1-5. Rooted in Visitation Academy's strong academic excellence tradition, the Middle School provides a challenging, exploratory, integrative, and relevant curriculum focused on girls' unique needs in Grades 6-8. The Upper School offers a rigorous college preparatory curriculum for young women in Grades 9-12. In a welcoming community that emphasizes personal attention, students join in the Academy's rich tradition while also learning to "Live Jesus" in their everyday lives.
Visitation Academy is a private school community in St. Louis that exists to educate children and young women and to receive and share Jesus as Mary did in her VisitationVisitation to Elizabeth. In an environment that values excellence in scholarship, spirituality, leadership, and service, this Visitation Community encourages students to develop their unique gifts. As students learn to live Jesus with gentleness, humility, joy, and freedom, they are prepared to continue to grow and respond to others, the Church, and the global community.
The Sisters of the Visitation knew even 180+ years ago what research is finding today about single-sex education. These visionary women instinctively knew about educating girls in an academic setting with equal rigor offered to boys of their era. Viz's educational and value system is as relevant for the 21st century as it was for the 19th. To fulfill the mission of preparing students to respond to others, the Church, and the global community, the Board of Trustees of Visitation Academy recognizes that it is vital to develop and maintain an environment in which all students have the opportunity to recognize, experience, understand, and appreciate people of diverse backgrounds.
The Board of Trustees supports those curricular and co-curricular initiatives which achieve this goal and urges the Visitation community to work actively to include qualified students, faculty, and staff whose unique gifts enhance the extent to which VisitationVisitation is representative of the diversity of our society. In keeping with the Academy's central theme of "Living Jesus," the Board of Trustees emphasizes the need to foster an institutional culture that honors the dignity and sacredness of every human life.
Upper School and Middle School students can promote diversity by participating in Peace and Justice, the Academy's diversity club. Peace and Justice diversity club's goal is to promote cultural differences and engender respect for them through special events. Students accomplish this goal by hosting special events and programs on campus. Lower School students, in addition to the expansive multicultural lessons incorporated into their curriculum, also attend special presentations, participate in International Day, and perform at all-school diversity events.
A student interested in academic excellence, leadership, community service, faith, extracurricular activities, teamwork, and respect for others will thrive at Visitation Academy. The selection process is structured to guarantee that students are admitted who will succeed in this environment.
