The University of North Carolina School of the Arts is a top-ranked creative and performing arts conservatory in Winston-Salem, N.C. Founded in 1963 as America's first public arts conservatory, UNCSA celebrates more than 50 years of training wildly creative, gifted, and hardworking young artists to do what they love, and do it brilliantly.
The University of North Carolina School of the Arts provides gifted emerging artists with the experience, knowledge, and skills needed to excel in their disciplines and lives. UNCSA is the state's unique professional school for the performing, visual, and moving image arts, training students at the high school, undergraduate, and master's levels for professional careers in the arts.
The undergraduate program at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts allows you to pursue what you're passionate about while preparing you realistically for a professional career. Students in the Design and Production, Dance, Film, and Drama school complete Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees, while musicians earn a Bachelor of Music degree.
Studies in your chosen field are balanced by academic courses in the Division of Liberal Arts, meaning you will become an artist with a dynamic perspective ready for the life ahead of you.

UNCSA high school students spend up to half of their time in academic courses. All classes—including Advanced Placement options in English, mathematics, science, and social studies—are taught by full-time instructors holding advanced degrees in their field. Class sizes are small (often 16 students or less), and academic subjects are infused with discussions of the arts and their essential role in society.
Applying to UNCSA is a little different from applying to a traditional college or university. Because we are an arts conservatory, we conduct in-person auditions and interviews with all of our applicants. We believe it's the best way to evaluate young artists' right artistic gifts and professional potential. The auditions and interviews are held either here on our campus in Winston-Salem, N.C., or major cities across the United States. There are several fellowships, scholarships, and awards available for eligible UNCSA students. Various departments oversee specific programs.
The Office of Student Financial Aid at UNCSA is here so that students accepted for admission are given a financial opportunity to enroll. We provide a full range of financial aid programs and services. Our goal is to help each student attend UNCSA despite financial limitations.
We want to assist individual students and families with all aspects of financial aid, from planning to applying to being awarded and receiving support. We want to be sure you understand all steps and complete them as early as possible to receive the best possible award package.
