Maur Hill-Mount Academy is a co-educational, Catholic, Benedictine, college preparatory high school created from two long-established single-sex schools. Maur Hill Prep was established in 1919 by the monks of St. Benedict’s Abbey to educate young men, and Mount St. Scholastic Academy was established in 1863 by the Benedictine Sisters to educate young women. The schools merged in 2003 to unify their strengths and provide the most significant benefit to the students.
MH-MA provides a well-rounded curriculum offering grade-level requirements and numerous electives. Electives are made available so that students may pursue areas of study they have a personal interest in. Students striving to complete the Regents Curriculum will have specific required courses beyond those required for graduation.
Students are provided time during a school day to work on their studies and further advance their academic progress in any area. Students report to designated study space and may work individually or in groups. Students are expected to manage their time wisely and actively seek and utilize the resources available to them for success both at Maur Hill - Mount Academy and in their next step into University. Maur Hill-Mount Academy guides students to be independent and responsible young adults who will advocate and take ownership of their academic path.
The ILT changes to MLT when a student has an academic grade below 70%. However, teachers can enact this change at a higher (e.g., 75% or 80%) based on what the teacher determines to be most appropriate for their class and a particular student. The transition to MLT can also occur when a student has not demonstrated the proper use or responsibility of their ILT time. The teacher and the academic team will identify a student who will now be required to meet routinely with their teacher. Whereas a student had the opportunity to obtain academic support during ILT, the change to MLT chooses the student who is now scheduled to meet with that teacher until their academics or responsibility is reestablished at an appropriate level to be allowed to return to ILT.
