Lawrence Academy recognizes you for who you are and inspires you to take responsibility for whom you want to become. For our part, the Scheibe family is thrilled to be here, and you are enthusiastically invited to visit. Although our family's experience on the campus is just beginning, we have already experienced the warmth and graciousness of Lawrence's particular scale and setting. Here, the people fill the physical and educational landscape in ways both comfortable and inspiring. Both individual strength and personal transformation are supported here in the broader embrace of the community.
For all the beautiful benefits a place like Lawrence might offer in the progress of one's life, the experience of being a member of the Lawrence community is, put, a necessary end in itself. Yet, such models of personal enterprise and mutual help are an abiding service to the world, and so the work we do together reaches beyond the time and space of our lives here. Lawrence Academy truly fosters a powerful opportunity to shape both individual lives and the wider world.
Students discover who they are and where they want to go in their academic, personal, and extracurricular endeavors at LA. Skills are taught, which allow students to uncover their abilities and interests, allowing them to pursue them with active support and guidance. LA provides a challenging yet encouraging environment that offers students a sense of place, a strong academic foundation, a diverse community, and opportunities to stretch and take constructive risks. At LA, students have a chance to build confidence, experience leadership, and develop their identities.
Lawrence Academy is a school that values and emphasizes integrity, trust, self-respect, and concern for the community. LA also stands out for its many opportunities: to develop in-depth a unique talent or skill, to discover and use your leadership abilities, and to take advantage of the school's cultural and social diversity.
We provide the challenges and the support that encourage you to take constructive risks and build self-confidence while contributing to the school community in ways you may never have imagined. Browsing the links below will introduce you to more details of life on our boarding school's campus. It would be a tall order to fill, however, to capture on a website what life on our campus would be for you. If what you see interests you, then it's time to take a look around for yourself. Please make an appointment with our admission office. We'll see you soon!
At Lawrence Academy, our independent high school here in Groton, Massachusetts, the academic program challenges students to take ownership of their learning and develop the confidence to persevere in the face of challenging problems. Our prep school students develop skills and gain knowledge with the understanding that their intelligence is not fixed. We expect students to become persistent problem-solvers by understanding content and thinking creatively about what they examine. We ask students to discover what inspires them and to exploit those interests on behalf of others.
The faculty at Lawrence Academy design curriculum and implement pedagogy with the intent of helping students mature into confident, self-aware, problem solvers who experience education as a means for realizing their potential as responsible citizens with the capacity to impact others and the environment positively.
At Lawrence Academy, we use technology as a tool to further the school's academic and community goals. Used correctly, these tools enhance logical thinking skills, encourage group work, enhance collaborative work skills, help develop problem-solving skills, enable students to simulate real-world problems, and enhance communication between our community members and beyond.
We have been careful and deliberate in integrating technology into the classroom and the daily life of the school. This "go slow" approach has helped us maximize the benefits of using technology in and out of the classroom. We have spent over 20 years thoughtfully integrating technology into the curriculum. During the past 18 years, we have implemented a sophisticated Windows 2003/2008 network throughout the campus, including all dormitory rooms. We have continued to further integrate technology into the curriculum by way of the Internet, email, and the use of new educational software and cloud-based software.
