As a private, inclusive, Catholic school in the Sinsinawa Dominican educational tradition, we provide a college preparatory curriculum steeped in faith and values and co-curricular activities to satisfy every student's interests. We aspire to provide an exceptional high school experience in an inclusive community where every student is inspired to study, reflect, and take action in pursuit of a purposeful life.
Edgewood, a Catholic high school, educates the whole student for a life of learning, service, and personal responsibility through a rigorous academic curriculum that embraces the Sinsinawa Dominican values of Truth, Compassion, Justice, Community, and Partnership.
Edgewood High School offers a college-preparatory program with both Advanced Placement and Honors courses and assistance for those struggling in particular subjects. Our curriculum includes required and elective courses in art, aviation, business, computers, English, French, history, Latin, mathematics, music, Spanish, public speaking/communications, physical education, religious studies, science, and social studies.
We take the African proverb, "It takes a village to raise a child," to heart. We know that our students, families, and faculty members cannot do it all alone. That is why we offer numerous student services to ensure the success of every child. From tutoring to career exploration to counseling, we fulfill that need if there is something a student needs.
Spirituality is an essential part of our students' journey, and we take pride in fostering personal spiritual growth. Also, prayer and service, we offer religious studies courses and understand the importance of ministry programs and retreats that allow our school community to engage in non-academic, faith-based experiences. We seek a deeper source of fulfillment, develop a sense of purpose, and facilitate spiritual activities that carry our mission.
Edgewood has a religiously diverse student body, so courses reach out to all students. We teach Catholic tradition, examine other faith traditions, and discuss commonalities and differences. Religious studies courses are academic and graded. All students can succeed in religious studies courses, regardless of faith background, for a list of all religious studies course offerings.
A student's high school years are about academic preparation. However, they are also a time for teenagers to learn more about themselves, explore interests, develop social skills, and gain self-confidence. Students acquire positive values and attitudes that they will take with them into their adult life.
Co-curricular activities are an integral and valuable part of a student's high school experience, and Edgewood High School is committed to sponsoring a wide variety of such activities. We are proud to say that more than 95 percent of our students participate in at least one club, activity, sport, and most participate in more.
While difficult to measure, the educational value of co-curricular participation is extensive. Numerous studies have shown that students who are actively engaged in sports, fine arts, or clubs and organizations are also more likely to have heightened performance in the classroom.
Spiritual study and reflection, retreats, liturgies, and prayer services are other aspects of campus life at Edgewood. Every student also must complete a minimum of 100 hours of service before graduation. Both Edgewood experience components are meant to create awareness and appreciation of the beliefs, traditions, life experiences, and circumstances of the range of people who live in our community.
