The Private University of Education, Diocese of Linz, is committed to a comprehensive and holistic concept of education. It is based on recognition and appreciation of the uniqueness and inviolability of the individual, which cannot be quantified in terms of achievement and performance. It views the process of education – initial, in-service and supplementary training – as discourse and dialogue. The underlying aim is to foster the ability of the individual to shape and give direction to life and to play a role in a society defined and distinguished by a spirit of solidarity.

The Private University of Education, Diocese of Linz, lays stress on practice relevance and the interconnectedness of theory and practice in initial and in-service training and supplementary training, whatever the professional area. It aims at continuing professional development about personality, domain-specific competencies, and pedagogical challenges. Our educational efforts are guided and informed by the needs of the respective target groups, the college's ultimate raison d'être.

The Private University College of Education of the Diocese of Linz has been officially accredited by the Republic of Austria, which means equal status with state-maintained university colleges of education. It also means that any qualifications gained at our institution enjoy the same legal status as qualifications awarded by state-maintained university colleges of education. While there was never any doubt that accreditation would be conferred, the ministerial delay makes our joy even more significant. Moreover, all the more so since the accreditation is not limited in time, but is valid for the lifetime of the Private University College of Education of the Diocese of Linz.

We teaching and learning, the twin pillars of initial teacher training - viewed as a development-focused dialogue characterized by respect for the individual - epitomize the environment in which the training of teachers for primary, secondary and special needs school takes place. The Institute's staff is committed to supporting students in all matters relating to their choice of professional pathways and training. This commitment is based on a Christian view of humans and the transmission of humanities-oriented values. A central role is assigned to standards of teaching and to fostering autonomous, creative, and reflective work on the part of the students. The Institute atmosphere is characterized by mutual respect, willingness to develop professionally continually, and readiness to work hard towards the goals set. They are further distinguishing features: respect for each individual's resources and a participative culture of management, with both teachers and students having a say in matters relating to the Institute.

Following our motto 'Gaining insight into religion/s - developing spirituality - living in fulfilling relationships,' we engage in the methodological implementation of the new curricula for RE teachers in a university environment. Research-based analysis of questions concerning intergenerational fostering of faith with children and young people and research into the spirituality of children and interreligious/intercultural learning underpin our teaching. As co-founders of the Linz Forum for RE Pedagogy, we focus on questions of the societal importance of religious education, and we regularly organize study days and discussion forums.
