The school was designed, built, and equipped to bring the very best of the British education system, into an authentic Malaysian context. We pride ourselves on a unique atmosphere created with our large on-site community of boarders and staff – deliberately modeled on an established and traditional UK pattern of boarding.
We teach the UK curriculum leading to IGCSE and A-level qualifications. Our students move on to top universities, across the globe – with the majority heading for the UK. They have a range of abilities, but our outcomes are exceptional these can only be achieved by high expectations of all, and teaching practices that are adapted to individual needs.
The school’s location provides easy access to Penang International Airport, and quick connections to Singapore and all South East Asia destinations, as well of course to all parts of the globe. We enjoy ready access to the World Heritage Site of Georgetown, as well as the many smaller communities on the Island. But the campus itself enjoys a unique rural location, in the new and developing Botanica CT township. Its position ensures a safe and healthy environment, which adds to the special community atmosphere and stimulates a wide range of on-site and local activities.
Boarding at the school is very popular, both full time and weekly depending on family circumstances. We have outstanding modern residential facilities, fully managed with academic and domestic staff members always available. The Principal makes new boarders promise to sound miserable when they ring home for the first time some parents are disappointed they are not missed as much as they would hope! That is the success of our boarding.
We are fully co-educational from year 7 to 13. Admissions can be at any time by arrangement, and we will always give sound advice to applicants. If we think a young person will not thrive here, we will say so. But for the vast majority of young people, POWIIS offers a wonderful opportunity for personal growth and fulfillment.
We work hard at caring for and nurturing, every individual with a pastoral care system second to none. Our academic results are outstanding, but we know success in life is not guaranteed by qualifications alone. We have a vibrant cultural diversity, but we study and communicate in English. Our students work hard at their language development, at the same time developing personal qualities, oratory and performance skills, and social sophistication.
