The Institut International de Lancy is a modern school in an ever-changing world.
We are a multicultural, diverse community where children can flourish and develop a love of learning, inspired by motivational teachers.
Known for encouraging academic excellence, we strive to make students independent, autonomous learners through the use of 21st-century approaches to teaching and learning.
We are united around the core values of mutual care and respect, shared with our founders, the Sisters of St Joseph of Lyon. Proud of our heritage, we are open to new ideas and innovation.
In a forward-thinking school, we nurture communication, creativity, and critical thinking.
We guide all learners through their schooling, encouraging compassion, multilingualism, and an acceptance of differences. We are committed to developing each individual to be the best person that they can be.
This philosophy will be a prime focus and we will be doing all we can to make sure it grows and spreads through the whole school community. An international school with roots embedded in its Catholic origins, IIL upholds a liberal and cosmopolitan outlook, maintaining the fundamental values of respect and tolerance at its core.
Within a uniformly French and English environment, IIL is dedicated to forming young people to be multi-lingual, articulate, independent thinkers with a strong sense of self-worth and integrity, and with an awareness of others and the world around them. Pupils are encouraged to develop a sensitivity to social and humanitarian commitment for which the school itself is an advocate and an example.
True to the spirit which led its founders to open the school in 1903 under the name of Pensionnat Marie-Thérèse, our Catholic school offers an environment conducive to learning through initiatives, research, and the implementation of innovative ideas and resources where the individual is of prime importance and fosters a caring, receptive and supportive approach.
Comprehensive curricula ensure students acquire a well-rounded education, from basic skills to the knowledge required to pass respected national and international diplomas. In complement to academic aims, teaching methods at IIL are designed to encourage students to develop their individuality and intellectual capacities so that they may face the world with confidence.
Students and staff from across the world, from a multitude of cultural, linguistic, and religious backgrounds, unite at the Institut International de Lancy to work and succeed together.
Although not involved in the management of IIL, the APEIIL works closely with the school. It successfully fulfills its mission to bring parents together and facilitate communication and organizes events for both IIL children and their parents throughout the year.
The APEIIL helps to create links and to facilitate the integration of families within the school community. Children and parents of over 80 different nationalities are encouraged to share their experiences and traditions. Parents are given several opportunities to meet, such as at the welcome get-together at the beginning of the term or the traditional New Year coffee morning.
The APEIIL offers activities throughout the year to Primary and Secondary children and therefore complements the academic mission of the school. Various afternoon and evening parties are organized during term time to suit different age groups, both in the English and French sections: Spooky Party, Santa's visit, Leavers’ Ball, etc. Each year, children, parents, and staff are invited to meet at the Christmas market and the school fête (Kermesse), two highlights of the school year.
In Nursery and Primary classes, the APEIIL oversees a network of class representatives who facilitate communication between parents. As a bilingual English-French school, we publish two newsletters regularly, one in French and one in English, keeping parents informed about school life and APEIIL activities.
The Association can operate thanks to financial contributions from its members. The yearly subscription fee finances their activities and is filtered back into school in the form of resources and equipment such as books for the classroom, outdoor games, and benches at the school gate. Proceeds from certain events are donated to Catholic schools elsewhere in the world run by the Congregation of Sisters of Saint Joseph.
