Surabaya European School was founded in 1997 as the first Montessori school in Surabaya. The school grew with the students in its first class into a British International Curriculum with both Primary and Secondary Schools that became fully accredited with Cambridge International Examinations in 2011. SES is an independent, co-educational, non-profit international school for students aged 3 – 16 with our student's educational journey concluding with IGCSE examinations in Year 11. Our alumni have successfully transitioned to schools in Europe, the USA, Canada, Singapore, and Australia.
We pride ourselves on fostering an inclusive international student body with over 15 nationalities represented. Our small size means that all teaching and management staff are familiar with each student’s ability and progress. This allows us to support and encouraged each student in a very personalized way. Our teachers are highly qualified, internationally experienced, and enjoy open lines of communication with parents.
Surabaya European School is the only British curriculum-based international school in Surabaya to combine three prestigious programs for children between the ages of 3 to 16. We provide a Montessori education for students from ages 3-6, the Cambridge and the International Primary Curriculum for junior school students, and the Cambridge and British National Curriculum for secondary school students, which culminates in the Cambridge IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) qualification.
Our consistent focus for students is on high academic standards, essential life skills, and a sense of responsibility to the community all within the framework of a ‘family like’ atmosphere. As an international school, we pride ourselves on our commitment to providing a diverse and inclusive school community. We also ensure that each student receives the educational support they need while being challenged to extend themselves according to their potential.
We are the only school in Surabaya that combines Montessori education for students from ages 3-6, the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) for junior school, and the Cambridge International Key Stage 3 and IGCSE education for secondary school students. The combination of inquiry-based learning and internationally recognized, rigorous academic standards offered by these programs provide an excellent framework for our students’ development.
The school is an inclusive international community in which each student is valued in their own right. Students are encouraged to develop their talents, realize their potential, and strive to achieve their personal best in all they set out to do. The well-being of every student is at the heart of all we do and our small size and family atmosphere allow me and my colleagues to maintain a close watch on each child’s development.
We also provide a range of sporting, cultural, academic, community service, and adventurous activities as part of our Co Curricula program. Our staff and overall community invest a significant amount of time and effort into this program, which we consider to be essential to our student's overall development. Our program includes the internationally recognized IAYP (International Award For Young People) and Model United Nations (MUN) activities that allow our children to interact with other cultures and the environment in varied domestic and international contexts.
