The New Horizon International School was established in 1993 to serve as a contribution to the society in Cairo - Egypt, providing young learners with educational continuity and a school philosophy which, extends beyond the conventional realm of education. Talented children prosper and all children receive professional guidance to reach their full potential. Above all, every student is allowed to attain the highest achievement standards and thus become a competent member of the community and the international pool of intellectual talent.
The New Horizon International School is an English medium institute, established to serve the multinational society in Cairo-Egypt. The school hosts from Kindergarten levels through Secondary years, offering British and Egyptian curricula, up through the IGCSE and the Egyptian National Certificate for Secondary Education programs. The school faculty, facilities, and resources provide all students with the opportunity to achieve the highest educational and intellectual standards.
Our National Department comprises Kindergarten (two levels), Primary (six levels), and Preparatory (three levels). The National Department follows a curriculum that is provided in English by the Ministry of Education in Egypt. Students have the opportunity to enter the Core IG program after successfully finishing the Preparatory 2 level. Students may then enter the IGCSE Department for three years and will receive an IGCSE qualification. French is offered from Primary Two as a second foreign language.
Our International Department follows the British curriculum preparing students for the IGCSE. The International Department starts at the Reception level up to Lower Senior Two, accounting for 10 years of schooling. After Lower Senior Two, students who successfully pass will continue onto the Core IG program preparing them to obtain their IGCSE qualification. Egyptian students must complete their studies in Arabic, Religion, and Social Studies subjects as provided by the Egyptian National curriculum. French as a second language is tutored from the Reception class.
Art, craft, and design are encouraged at New Horizon and we engage our students in the highest forms of human creativity. Our program inspires our students and equips them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their works of art, craft, and design. Design techniques and the biography and works of great artists and craft makers are an integral part of their sessions. They also learn how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity, and wealth of every nation.
The computing education offered at New Horizon equips students to use computational thinking and creativity. Since computing has deep links with mathematics, science and design, and technology, it provides insights into both natural and artificial systems. Students are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. School graduates become problem solvers and digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world. Also, they become familiar with and use the applications to create their presentations and videos.
Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. New Horizon School provides a high-quality music education that inspires students to develop a love of music and to explore their talent as musicians. Through music and song, their self-confidence, creativity, and sense of achievement develop further. Students perform, listen to, review, and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles, and traditions, including the works of great composers and musicians. They are given the opportunity during their sessions to understand and explore how music is created, produced, and communicated, including through the interrelated dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure, and appropriate musical notations.
We emphasize the relationship between learning and well-being and therefore take a special interest in inspiring all students to engage and participate in competitive sport and physical training including yoga practice. New Horizon provides opportunities for students to become physically confident in a way that supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to lead healthy and active lives to enhance character-building and help to embed values such as respect and teamwork.
