Woodlands Academy wants to give pupils wide-ranging opportunities to succeed in life at their local school. Our school is raising standards of achievement and significantly increasing the progress made by pupils. Our team has created an atmosphere that fosters good academic achievement and also encourages high achievement in important areas like art, creativity, and sports. Physical activity is important because a healthy body promotes a healthy mind, giving the children an improved ability to learn, remember and succeed. Woodlands Academy is a nurturing school that brings out the talents of all children. We think this success is down to working in close partnership with parents and making sure they have regular opportunities to meet with staff.

Woodlands Academy offers an all-through school experience from Nursery to Year 6. To further help parents, Woodlands runs successful breakfast and after-school clubs which are nurturing and caring, helping to accommodate the needs of hard-working modern families and provide an added opportunity for parents to link with staff.

Woodlands Academy is a community that will nurture, challenge, and strengthens pupil attitudes towards learning. Celebrating and sharing learning will help us navigate this journey, underpinning our learning community with joy and discovery.

To fulfill our mission statement, we aim to provide outstanding quality and a range of learning opportunities. The content of what we offer, will focus on what children need and this will include:

• Awe and wonder of the world

We engage our local community by extending our learning and inviting our families. To help achieve this, we have created an environment where positive relationships and interactions are encouraged. This promotes and nurtures our attitudes and dispositions towards learning. We encourage our pupils to have ‘an appetite to learn by being inquisitive and curious.

Our values-based school nurtures curiosity and creativity through a rich, varied, and inspiring curriculum. Teaching and Learning are the focus of all we do, our children learn to explore and express their innate talents and reach their full potential to be caring, conscientious, and confident citizens of tomorrow. All members of our school community are expected to behave, communicate and positively engage in a way that reinforces our values for everyone, every day.

Education is a life-long process and we aim to help the children to achieve their full potential and to acquire the concepts, knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will equip them for life in a fast-changing world. As a school, we ensure that the National Curriculum for England is followed. We tailor the curriculum to ensure it is broad and balanced, offering a range of experiences, which are relevant to the children’s present and future interests and needs. The curriculum is designed to achieve high standards through a relevant, challenging, and imaginative program that includes as much first-hand experience as possible. We use high-quality and engaging texts as a base for all areas of our curriculum. Teachers are inspired by the ‘Power of Reading’ teaching sequences which have been developed by the ‘Centre for Literacy in Primary Education.
