Wallington High School for Girls has an excellent academic reputation and we also provide first-class care, guidance, support, and development so that everyone enjoys a positive experience during their time at the school and leaves well prepared for life beyond.
We are ambitious for our students and want them to leave prepared to contribute to the world - our school motto "Heirs of the Past, Makers of the Future" reflects this. Our school is a happy, positive place to study and we benefit from a multi-cultural community that brings a rich diversity to the school.
At Wallington High School for Girls, all our work is based on the principle of equal opportunity. This principle includes equal entitlement to a broad, balanced curriculum, including the National Curriculum, relevant to the needs of each student.
We, therefore, organize our teaching to provide for the individual needs of each student. This is particularly so for students with special educational needs. We plan and operate a differentiated curriculum to ensure equal access to the curriculum for each student. Partnerships are a vital part of our work with students with SEN. Parents / Carers are involved in all aspects of planning for their daughters. In school and external provision planning is shared with all teachers and the pastoral team. Provision is then monitored and evaluated by the School Governors.
At every stage of our curriculum, we give our students, who are all very bright, stretch and challenge and prepare them for the next step of their academic journey from Key Stage 3 into 4, from Key Stage 4 into ‘A’ Levels, and from Sixth Form into university and life beyond. Throughout their time with us, we support our students on their pathways to follow their aspirations and fulfill their potential.
This curriculum recognizes the need for rigor and pace whilst also giving our students a wide breadth of experience, extending and enriching the National Curriculum to meet the needs of our very able students. Their Technology course across the first two years encompasses 5 separate areas and a challenging project on structures. The Computing course includes coding from Year 7 and develops all the IT skills they will need to be effective in their studies at our school. We have also expanded Drama provision to support students develop their interpersonal skills. In Mathematics and Science, the GCSE syllabus is followed from Year 9 in response to our students’ ability levels.
In our Sixth Form, we offer 30 subjects over a very broad range. These include all the facilitating subjects required for top universities, including Further Mathematics. Other subjects available include, amongst others, four Technology subjects, Art, Psychology, Philosophy and Ethics, Economics, Drama, and Music. There are opportunities for students to complete an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and have the opportunity to complete a Sports Leaders qualification and take part in Young Enterprise. High-quality preparation for Higher Education and career advice is central to the pastoral program in Sixth Form.
Our PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education) course runs throughout KS3, KS4, and KS5 and is designed to prepare our students to take an informed and active role as citizens in British society.
We pride ourselves on the number and range of extracurricular activities on offer to our students. By extending their learning outside of the classroom, students have the opportunity to expand their horizons. We strongly recommend that all students supplement their academic studies by participating in at least one extra-curricular club.
At Wallington High School for Girls, we recognize the importance of learning outside of the classroom and the impact these experiences have on students’ development. We, therefore, have five dedicated Enrichment Days each year, one in the Autumn term, one in the Spring term, and three days in the Summer term. During this time, all students will be off timetable and will therefore be able to enjoy the activities on offer, knowing they will not be missing any lessons. We aim to provide an Enrichment program that covers a wide range of skills and experiences balancing off-site visits with exciting activities in school.
