Our school motto is Believe, Achieve, Succeed, and is at the heart of everything we do. We have high expectations of our children and are ambitious for them. Every child is special, with unique talents, skills, and qualities that we recognize and nurture. Our core purpose is to ensure all the children in our school have high aspirations. Every day we challenge and support them to fulfill their potential.
At Usk Church in Wales Primary School, we believe it is important to help our children develop values that can guide them throughout their lives. As a Church in Wales school, we have 12 distinctive Christian values that inspire and support our daily life. They are Perseverance, Responsibility, Trust, Truthfulness, Thankfulness, Humility, Forgiveness, Respect, Peace, Compassion, Courage, and Justice. Every day, across our enriched curriculum, we explore the meaning of these values and their significance in the Christian faith. We use them to foster the children’s sense of belonging, pride, service, and understanding of right and wrong. Ultimately, they encourage the children to live safe, happy, productive, and fulfilling lives, both inside and outside of school.
On 30 June 2015, the Minister for Education and Skills announced that the Welsh Government would accept, in full, all of the recommendations set out in Successful Futures, Professor Graham Donaldson’s independent review of the curriculum and assessment arrangements in Wales. Building on the Digital Pioneers model announced on 10 June 2015, this document sets out how, working in a new way with schools, local authorities, regional consortia, Estyn, leading academics and employers as well as other key stakeholders we will together build our new curriculum in Wales.
This is an exciting time for the young people of Wales. A new Curriculum for Wales is coming that will enthuse learners from 3 to 16, giving them the foundations they need to succeed in a changing world.
