Unity is a friendly school where all staff is positive and welcoming. Our skilled teachers deliver first-class education in partnership with our families and the community. We are a UNICEF Rights Respecting School and children’s rights are at the heart of all that we do. We are educating our children to be responsible, high-achieving citizens of the future.
We opened in September 2015 with just two classrooms in the old Cheetwood center. In autumn 2016 we moved into our amazing new building with 14 light and airy classrooms. By 2019, Unity will have all year groups from Nursery to Year six. Our vision is that children are happy and engaged in their school. We will ensure that they know how to be healthy and can make good choices for themselves. We will support them to develop their thoughts and express their feelings in a safe environment.
Unity Community Primary school will have a strong focus on Communication and Enterprise working with families to ensure children are confident communicators from an early age. Our focus on enterprise will raise achievement and help young people to become confident individuals, equipping them with skills for life to create a more positive and prosperous future for themselves.
The children and families at our school have settled in Cheetwood and the Salford area from all over the world. We will harness their experiences to ensure our school curriculum is outward-looking. To understand the world around us more, Unity became a UNICEF Rights Respecting School in 2017. We have achieved this award in recognition of all the work we have done around children’s rights and embedding the UN Convention for the Rights of the Child (CRC) into everything we do
Unity Community Primary was developed in response to parents and children wanting high-quality education on their doorstep. We’re passionate about families receiving outstanding services, families getting involved in their children’s education, and working with families to ensure children leave school with the skills they need to fulfill their dreams.
The provision for the very youngest children at Unity is built on our belief that wellbeing is central to children’s success. With a strong focus on nurture, we put children’s personal, social and emotional development at the heart of everything that we do. Our curriculum has a strong focus on understanding the world and is built around child-initiated, play-based learning. Our approach ensures that our children are confident, courageous, and willing to take risks in their learning.
Early language levels are the biggest determiner of achievement in life. We have a strong focus on developing language and communication in all aspects of the curriculum. Unity has achieved Level 1 of the UNICEF Rights Respecting School Award, which means that we place children’s rights at the heart of all we do. Article 29 from the Convention for the Rights of the Child says: “Education must develop every child’s personality, talents, and abilities to the full. It must encourage the child’s respect for human rights as well as respect for their parents, their own and other cultures and the environment.” Children in school know this article as, ‘your right to be the best you can be’ and strive to respect this right for everyone every day. At Unity we believe children’s emotional well-being is also very important, so we have a strong pastoral curriculum that will develop resilient, tolerant, responsible, and active citizens of the future.
Empowered by a strong sense of wellbeing our children can develop real and meaningful skills which are embedded through practical experience and application. Our children aim high and stay positive, knowing that making mistakes is an important part of learning. We are passionate about the way that we work. We feel strongly that putting wellbeing first creates curious, independent, and creative learners who are secure in their own ability to apply what they know.
We know that our local community values education and wants the very best for their children. They want their children to understand the purpose of education, be enterprising and enjoy learning. We work with parents and children to make this happen - parents will lead the development of the school and the nursery, and be involved in all aspects their views will be listened to and valued. Unity will help your child achieve their aspirations and potential and deliver the highest standards of education, behavior, and attendance through working together. Together means you, your children, your extended family, the community, teachers, and volunteers. We strive for families to be involved in everything we do – from making decisions about our building to the color of the uniform for children at the school. We want families to feel part of their children’s education and shape the way their children learn.
Our nursery provision caters to 2-4-year-old children. At Unity School Nursery, we give children great opportunities to learn through imagination, creativity, and play in a safe, fun space. We encourage children to be creative, have outdoor adventures, and make memories while learning new skills. We understand how hard it can be to leave your child in the care of others, so we make sure that being at nursery is the next best place to home. Our team is dedicated to looking after your child in whatever way they need, every day. We believe that you are never too young to take the first steps towards fulfilling your dreams. Our nursery has an enthusiastic teacher helping your child get ready for their journey to school.
Unity is part of The Big Life group. Big Life is in the business of changing lives, creating opportunities for people who have the least. The Big Life group has more than twenty years of experience working with children and families in Manchester, running nurseries, crèches, and children’s centers. We also run Longsight Community Primary School. We’re passionate about families receiving outstanding services and getting involved in their children’s education, and we work with families to ensure children leave school with the skills they need to fulfill their dreams.
