A place where girls are emboldened to be their authentic selves, we are extremely proud that our students achieve their very best in all disciplines. But it’s about more than just the lessons. We asked our parents to choose any three words to describe a typical student. The most popular choices were Happy, Confident, and Polite and we firmly believe that this is a direct result of watching their daughters grow up in an environment where every girl matters and every girl is supported and challenged to become the very best that she can be.

Being a smaller school allows us to provide truly bespoke development for your daughter’s skills, exceptional academic support, and first-class teaching in focussed classes that enable girls to follow their curiosity way beyond the syllabus. The wealth of co-curricular and enrichment opportunities here will also mean your daughter will discover and develop new talents, whilst forming friendships that last a lifetime.

Just over 300 girls, aged 4 to 18, are part of our school community on a daily, weekly or Flexi boarding basis. Within our halls, they flourish into confident, resilient, and articulate young adults, ready to embrace the challenge of life beyond school with enthusiasm.

From the age of four, our girls are encouraged to find their voices, to grow in confidence, and to develop the resilience needed to try, to overcome obstacles, to re-group, and bounce back.

Yoga classes and a wellbeing hub run alongside a full mental health awareness program that includes a Big Sis/Little Sis buddy system, peer mentoring and weekly workshops on topics including healthy eating, anti-bullying and positive body image.

Mindfulness sessions are run during exam weeks while, every week, girls as young as four take part in ‘relaxercise’ classes covering meditation and cosmic yoga. At the upper end of the school, students from Years 11-13 can even qualify for Mental Health First Aid.

We are the first school in the South West, and the second in the UK, to use the new wellbeing platform ‘Flourishing at School’ which enables our pupils to understand and maintain positive mental health.

The program is based on leading psychologist Martin Seligman’s work on PERMA (Positive emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, Accomplishments) and has already proven incredibly successful in Australia.

Rather than seeking to identify those who are distressed, or potentially “at-risk”, this innovative program takes this positive psychology approach to help students develop the ‘pillars’ of good mental health to stay well and optimize quality of life.

Through surveys and regular check-ins, it aims to identify top contributors to each girl’s wellbeing. The results will inform each student’s individualized pastoral care plan as well as conversations between girls and their tutors focussed on the development of wellbeing knowledge and behaviors.

Our motto aligns perfectly with the key outcomes and principles of the School. 'Luce magistrate's meaning 'with the light as my teacher'. At Truro High School we believe in ‘Girls First’. There should be no such thing as a typical Truro High School pupil, however, as one of the leading schools in Cornwall, our Mission Statement is:

Truro High School was founded as a Church of England school by the Bishop of Truro in 1880 and Anglican morals and ethics remain important to us. However, within this setting, we welcome pupils of all faiths and none.

In November 2015 Truro High School joined the Methodist Independent Schools Trust (MIST). We believe that the aims and ethos of MIST naturally align with those of our School. MIST sets out its principles as follows:

The Methodist Church is engaged in education as part of its Christian mission in the world. Its schools will seek to extend the Methodist ethos and character and contribute to diversity in education.

During 2015 the Governors and the Senior Leadership Team of Truro High School spent a great deal of time reviewing our current direction and developing targets that will allow us to achieve this vision.

3. To continue to offer excellent boarding facilities and to develop these facilities to attract both the UK and overseas borders by providing a first-class boarding experience.
4. To maintain and develop supportive, friendly, and open relationships with all members of the School family – pupils, parents, staff, old girls, and Governors – and to have a high profile in the local community and further afield.
5. To be led by a strong Governing Body and a visionary Senior Leadership Team.
