The Mount School York is an exceptional independent day and boarding school for girls aged 2 -18, based in the heart of York. We are leaders in educating girls and understanding their needs, inspiring and empowering confident young women, enabling them to believe nothing is beyond their reach.

We have been at the forefront of providing an exceptional education for girls since 1785. Our Quaker founders knew that girls excel within an all-girls environment and we still believe they do today. Mount girls are equipped with the skills, ambition, and courage to succeed in everything they aspire to do and anything they aspire to be.

Our extensive day School is enhanced by our fantastic boarding environment. Boarders join us from all over the world, including Asia, Africa, mainland Europe, and of course the UK. The Mount is a rich and diverse community with so much to offer every child.

Mount girls take center stage to pursue their academic excellence. The confidence and security girls gain within our all-girls setting means they are free to focus their energies on their learning. Through our bespoke education and tailored teaching, we inspire each girl to strive for personal excellence.

Our girls regularly achieve outstanding exam results and go on to study at a range of universities including Oxford and Cambridge, Russell Group Universities, and other world-renowned Higher Education institutions. Girls across the School attain high ‘value-added’ scores and often exceed their predicted grades.

The Mount School is set on 16 acres of fabulous grounds in the heart of York. Spacious gardens and playing fields are surrounded by secure school buildings all within a 15-minute walk of York’s historic city center. Girls are inspired by the beauty and tranquillity of their surroundings.

Our main School building was purpose-built to house a School for Quaker daughters in 1856. Over the following 160 years, we have expanded the campus to accommodate sports facilities, modern learning facilities, and The Mount Junior School. The original buildings are a fascinating reminder of our rich history but offer the most up-to-date learning environments and technology relevant to school life today.
