The Annunciation School was started at the invitation of Cardinal Bourne of the Archdiocese of Westminster who invited the Dominican Sisters to found an all-age school intended to serve the newly built Watling Estate. With selfless dedication, the Sisters moved to Burnt Oak and using their funds had the School built-in 1931.
The school was originally sited next to the Church and intended to serve the needs of Catholic children of all ages from the parishes of Burnt Oak, Kingsbury, and Edgware. After a short time, it was soon oversubscribed and several classes were given temporary accommodation in North Road.
The purpose of our school is to provide a Catholic education for our children and develop sound Christian principles.
We aim to foster links with the wider community – the children’s families, the parish, and link schools. We will make the children aware of the less fortunate members of the community through the work of the Catholic Children’s Society and other agencies.
We provide a Christian community within the school so that each child may learn to live as a member of God’s family, developing self-respect and self-discipline, and become sensitive to the needs and feelings of others. We enable our pupils to progress as individuals and still achieve standards of excellence.
Our children’s mission statement is “Be who God meant you to be, and you will set the world on fire.” All of the adults, who work here at The Annunciation Junior School, strive each day, to ensure our children are safe, happy, and excited to learn with us. With God’s guidance and blessing, we walk alongside our children, as they undertake their faith and educational journeys.
We recognize the value of each child, nurture and develop the God-given gifts, talents, and spirituality, and foster a secure and happy environment. This will be carried out within the atmosphere of a Catholic community where we travel together on our journey of faith developing our potential. Prayer, worship, and liturgical celebration will take the form of classroom and year group prayer, assemblies, and Masses. There will be a positive recognition of the individual child, acknowledging the value of achievement in any area of the child’s development.
We create a pleasant, friendly environment in our classrooms, which is conducive to learning shall endeavor to identify and meet each child’s needs.
We believe that by working harmoniously together for the good of all, we can create an atmosphere of mutual respect between all members of the school community.
At our school, we place a very strong emphasis on relationships and mutual respect. We expect and encourage all members of our community to treat each other with dignity, compassion, and tolerance. We behave towards each other with kindness and gentleness and have a focus on praise and encouragement.
We have a strong tradition of very successful partnership working with our parents. We encourage and facilitate effective communication so that together we can promote high standards of behavior for learning and play. We have a warm and supportive partnership with our parish and local community and are extremely proud of our children and the contribution they make.
