Every day in school is focused on learning and developing a love of learning. We hope our website will provide you with a flavor of the many wonderful opportunities and experiences offered in our school, and also give you the information needed to support your child’s educational journey. We are a Catholic Primary School in the heart of Kingsbury, clear in our beliefs and values, and the importance of Jesus Christ in our daily lives. Our Mission Statement underpins all we do:

“Following Jesus’ footsteps, and inspired by St Robert Southwell, we work hard, aim high and treat everyone with honesty and gentleness”

Our school is a thriving community that is well supported by parents and the Parish. There are many opportunities for us to work and celebrate together, including assemblies, concerts, coffee mornings, curriculum workshops, and fundraising events.

We are immensely proud of our school and our very hardworking, enthusiastic children, with their wide range of individual talents. We are blessed to have extremely hardworking and committed staff who are ambitious for all our children and are wholly committed to achieving excellence for every one of our children, by providing the best learning opportunities each day.

It is a tremendous privilege to lead such a wonderful community and to be part of your children’s learning journey, and work with you in preparing them for their future.

At St Robert Southwell, Learning is central to all we do and is our core purpose. We approach learning in exciting, enriching, and creative ways, to engage, inspire and enthuse our children.

We believe the curriculum should be relevant to children’s life experiences should inspire and engage them in their learning, while enabling them to work collaboratively using their imaginations. The aim of our curriculum is for pupils to have the requisite skills to be successful, independent, and motivated learners, in readiness for their next stage of education.

In September 2016 we launched our ‘Creative Curriculum’ which is planned around the development of knowledge, skills, and understanding using content from the National Curriculum, under broad and engaging themes. The purpose of our Creative Curriculum is to ignite curiosity, nurture fascination and imagination while developing skills and providing a knowledge base for our children.

Our Creative Curriculum has English and Maths at its core links are made to ensure children are engaged, motivated, and stimulated in all areas of their learning and subsequently make progress across the board.

The general aims of our school are:

  • To help and complement the exercise of the educational rights and duties of the R C family
  • to cultivate the intellectual, creative, and aesthetic values of the child to help the child develop a lively enquiring mind, the ability to acquire information and to question and argue rationally, and the will to apply themselves to tasks and physical skills
  • To help children develop the ability to make correct use of their judgment, will, and emotions
  • To promote in the child a sense of values
  • To encourage just attitudes and inner discipline
  • To develop the children’s knowledge of their own culture and the culture and background of others, so that there will be a mutual understanding between people whatever their race, religion, and ways of life
  • To help children understand the environment in which we live and the interdependence of the individual groups and nations
  • To help children appreciate human achievements and aspirations in art, music, science, and technology
  • To help children acquire knowledge and skills relevant to adult life at home, at work, and leisure.

For the achievement of these aims St. Robert Southwell School strives:

  • To provide a stable, caring environment conducive to study and learning in an atmosphere in which the love of God is shown in all aspects of school life
  • To directly instruct children in the Roman R C Faith and to support the parish in preparing children for the reception of the sacraments
  • To provide a wide curriculum that will develop the intellectual and physical skills of the child and enable them to use their particular abilities, talents, and interests to the full
  • To give good emphasis to the skills of numeracy and literacy
  • to seek close co-operation from parents so that the values taught and respected at home and school are the same
  • To encourage the child to play a full part in parish life by contributing to parish worship and parish projects
