We try to provide children with the best possible start to their education and want them to be happy, enjoy learning, and coming to school. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to achieve to their full potential and offer a broad and balanced curriculum to support this. Working in partnership between home and school is of great importance in supporting children's learning and celebrating their success.
At St John Bosco R.C. Primary School we aim to be like Jesus in everything we do. In our daily work, we try to improve our mind, body, and spirit so that we can make the most of the talents which have been given to us by God.
If you have a child who will be 3 before 1st September 2016 and you would like them to attend St John Bosco School Nursery please make sure that you have completed an application form and returned it to the school office by the closing date, Friday 16th February 2018. Application forms can be collected from the school office or downloaded from the school website. Please do contact the school office if you would like to arrange a visit.
St John Bosco is a Roman Catholic Primary School provided by Manchester LEA as a voluntary aided primary school. The school’s Governing Body is the admission authority and is responsible for taking decisions on applicants for admission. For the school year commencing September 2018, the Governing Body has determined that the number of children to be admitted to Reception will be 30.
Our Statement on British Values outlines how our school promotes the values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
All staff in schools and early year settings must maintain professional standards of care and ensure that children and young people are safe. Whilst there is no legal duty requiring staff to administer medication or to supervise a child when taking medicines, it is good practice and meets with the Every Child Matters agenda. It is expected good practice that schools and settings will review cases individually and administer medicines to meet the all-around needs of the child and to enable them to attend school.
Under the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1995, schools and settings are under a duty to make reasonable adjustments for disabled children, including those with medical needs. All provisions should be planned with the intention of ensuring access to their full educational entitlement. Where pupils have incurred injuries that restrict their mobility for example as a result of fractures, schools and settings should consider what reasonable adjustments they need to make to enable them to participate fully in all areas of school life, including educational visits and sporting activities.
Governing bodies are responsible for setting the strategic direction of the school. This includes the establishment, monitoring, and evaluation of school policies including a policy for medicines. In developing school policies Governing Bodies should take into account the views of parents/carers, the staff, and the Headteacher and ensure that the policy supports all pupils to attend school wherever possible.
Staff, including supply staff, must always be informed of a child’s medical needs where this is relevant and of any changes to their needs as and when they might arise. All staff will be informed of the designated person(s) with responsibility for medical care, which at St John Bosco School is the headteacher.
The Headteacher, or, in their absence, the authorized member of senior staff (deputy Headteacher or SENCo), has the ultimate responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people goes beyond implementing basic child protection procedures. It is an integral part of all activities, functions, culture, and ethos of St John Bosco RC Primary School. This policy complements and supports other relevant school and Local Authority policies, including Child Protection, Safer Recruitment, and internet and e-safety.
St John Bosco RC Primary School aims to create and maintain a safe learning environment where all children and adults feel safe, secure, and valued and know they will be listened to and taken seriously. Our school is committed to the principles outlined in ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children 2015’ and implements policies, practices, and procedures which promote safeguarding and the emotional and physical well-being of children, young people, and staff. The school is committed to supporting the delivery of effective early help through multiagency working, a consistent application of the thresholds, and the use of a single agency assessment using the ‘Signs of Safety, strengths based model. Children have access to appropriate curriculum opportunities, including emotional health and well-being, to support the development of the skills needed to help them stay safe and healthy, develop their self-esteem and understand the responsibilities of adult life, particularly regarding child care and parenting skills.
All children have access to an appropriate curriculum that is broad and balanced and differentiated to meet their needs. This enables them to learn to develop the necessary skills to build self-esteem, respect others, defend those in need, resolve conflict without resorting to violence, question, and challenge and make informed choices in later life. Children and young people are encouraged to express and discuss their ideas, thoughts, and feelings through a variety of activities and have access to a range of cultural opportunities which promote the fundamental British values of tolerance, respect, understanding, and empathy for others.
