St John Baptist is a friendly and highly successful one from entry Church of England Primary School. At St John’s, we work hard as a team of learners, so that everyone can achieve their very best. Children at St John’s are eager to learn and are very ably supported by our hardworking, dedicated, and talented staff.
In our community, relationships are based on these core values: loving, caring, attitudes concern for the whole person justice, and respect for others. We pride ourselves on offering a friendly, supportive environment where all are treated equally. Whilst we are a church of England Primary School we are here to serve our local community. We welcome applications from families of all faiths and of no faith.
At St John Baptist School we have a shared mission to nurture a Christian ethos of love and care through our actions, prayers, and reflections. We aim to celebrate and respect the diversity of cultures and beliefs in society to create a safe and challenging learning environment to encourage each individual to reach his or her maximum potential. Our Irresistible Curriculum and Core Values provide an opportunity for all to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to lead happy and successful lives.
As a school we look to our values to underpin everything we do – they help to provide our children (and staff) with a ‘moral compass. The Values Education Programme consists of two sets of 11 values to be introduced and developed over a two-year rolling program. Each month a new value is introduced, shared with parents, staff, and children, developed and promoted by all in every aspect of school life
Assembly/worship themes are based on the monthly value word (including the exploration of religious festivals and different religions). ‘Thinking Time’ and ‘Silent Reflection’ will be used in addition to prayer in encouraging children to reflect upon the values during assemblies and in classrooms.
Circle time and PHSE lessons will be used as formal opportunities to discuss and promote our values within each classroom with informal opportunities being utilized whenever possible, e.g. playtime. In addition, each month a lesson will be planned and delivered focusing solely on that month’s value, from which quality children’s work, often for display, will be expected.
Values are displayed in the school entrance, the school hall and within each classroom with ways in which the value might be demonstrated, as discussed with pupils. The Values Education Programme underpins the school’s Collective Worship policy and is also closely linked to PSHE and RE to further promote our values.
Our values words for the first year are Friendship, Humility, Independence, Humour, Perseverance, Enthusiasm, Respect, Generosity, Kindness, Forgiveness, Responsibility. For the second year in the cycle, they are Courage, Wisdom, Peace, Confidence, Quality, Appreciation, Honesty, Fairness, Love, Empathy, and Faith.
