St James Primary School the safety of our pupils is of paramount importance to us. All staff receives regular 'Safeguarding Training' by the Local Authorities Safeguarding Officers and receive updated training as and when required. Furthermore, several members of staff receive a higher level of training on key Safeguarding issues.

We are very fortunate in our school to have two Governors that work in Safeguarding and are always on hand to provide support and guidance, as well as ensure that the school's procedures are robust and appropriate. Promoting good behavior at St James Primary School has a very high priority. We endeavor to create a warm, caring, and safe atmosphere where all individuals are valued and encouraged to care for each other and their school. Respect for, and politeness towards staff, visitors, and pupils is of prime importance. It is the responsibility of all staff, governors, children, and parents to ensure that the school guidelines and code of conduct are followed.

Assertive discipline is the underwritten policy in governing behavior at St James Primary School. We define an assertive teacher as one who ‘clearly and firmly communicates their expectations to the pupils and is prepared to reinforce their words with appropriate actions. Assertive teachers at St James Primary School communicate their influences by sending very clear messages to their pupils. This encourages our pupils to take responsibility for their behaviors. It also provides pupils with the opportunity to change their behavior if they choose to do so.
