Welcome to Our Lady of Muswell Primary School. Our school is a vibrant, inclusive Catholic school offering a wonderful primary experience where everyone is welcome.

Values and Aims:

One Community – OLM is an inclusive school with a rich diversity of cultures that is cherished and celebrated. Working together and caring for each other is a strong part of OLM. In doing this as a whole school we can all achieve great things.

Love of Learning - Learning that engages and inspires children produces results. We strongly believe that the best way for our children to achieve their full potential is to enjoy their learning.

Making Time for God - This is vitally important to our ethos and is embedded into everything we do across our school community. This enables our children to understand and value a Catholic ethos as they grow and develop to become responsible and valued individuals as they move into the wider world.

At OLM we work together as one community, we inspire and foster a love of learning and ensure that we follow our gospel values in all we do this allows our children to flourish academically, spiritually, and morally.

Our mission statement stands side by side with our vision for OLM which to is build a community where all truly excel. To achieve this we believe that all must strive to have a passion to learn, positive attitudes, high expectations, and strong values, and strive to be resilient, reflective, and nurturing.

At OLM, we follow the principle of 'Letters and Sounds: Principles and Practice of High-Quality Phonics' published by the Department of Education.

The Collins Big Cat Reading scheme is used throughout the school to support reading. A variety of other schemes support this including Oxford Reading Tree, Jelly and Bean, and Oxford Project X.

At OLM we believe that English is best taught through the use of high-quality texts. Foundation Stage follows the principles of CLPE which particularly emphasizes the importance of books and literature in enabling children to become confident, happy, and enthusiastic readers and writers, The Wordsmith scheme is used from years 1 to 6 and also focuses upon learning through a variety of different texts.

At OLM, we follow 'Maths No Problem' to deliver our maths curriculum. At the heart of the approach is teaching maths for mastery. When taught to master maths, children develop their mathematical fluency without resorting to rote learning and can solve non-routine maths problems without having to memorize procedure

At Our Lady of Muswell, our SEND policy directly reflects the whole school mission statement. We aim to have early recognition of learning, emotional and physical difficulties, through baseline assessments and screening. We work cooperatively with outside agencies to aim to provide the most qualified support for the children e.g. Occupational therapist, speech and language therapist, and educational psychologist.

At Our Lady of Muswell, we are clear that safeguarding is everybody’s business and we have a strong commitment to safeguarding all our children ensuring their health, safety, and well-being in all areas of our practice.
