We are a co-educational, all-inclusive Secondary Academy dedicated to transforming the lives of those within the community we serve. We have had an exciting journey to date. Currently, we are in our temporary home, whilst we are waiting for a permanent site for our future, but we have prioritized student learning. Therefore we are proud to say that we can walk through our halls and smile at the inspirational branding and decoration, state-of-the-art technology, fully functioning science facilities, multi-use technology department, and extensive sports facilities (including basketball, football, table tennis, and a running track). It is within these walls that we have seen and will continue to see our young minds flourish and develop a life-long love for learning that we hope to instill in future cohorts to come.
We are at the heart of an amazing community. The Royal Docks is one of the most exciting places to live and work right now – and it is only going to get better! On our doorstep we have the new Siemens Crystal – right across the dock we have the EXCEL center – and just up the road, we have London City Airport. Next door we have the new Silvertown Partnership development, committed to developing the Royal Docks. Next to EXCEL, we have the huge ABP development, which is bringing massive investment from China, and of course, we have the University of East London, one of the top modern universities for research. Just 10 minutes by DLR we have Canary Wharf – one of the world’s top financial centers.
All of this on our doorstep! We want our young people – and their families – to benefit from this real wealth of opportunity. We are not alone. In 2011, the Mayor of Newham and the Mayor of London published an exciting Vision for the Royal Docks. We are at the heart of this regeneration.
At Oasis Academy Silvertown, our vision is that Oasis Academy Silvertown will transform students’ lives by preparing them for the university or career of their choice and enable them to contribute to their community as leaders. Our mission is simple: “Ready for university. Ready to lead.”
We aim to achieve our mission through 5 key principles, held by staff and students: Be Proud. Be Professional. Be Nice. Be Independent. Be Resilient.
The Royal Docks are once again emerging as one of Britain’s gateways to the world, and we want our young people and their communities to be equipped with the skills to take advantage of the education, employment, and training opportunities, at the same time developing in our students a sharp awareness of their place in the global economy. We believe that by utilizing the 5 "Be" values in everyday lessons, we can help to better equip our young minds for the world of further study and work. Moreover, we foster strong partnerships with business, community partners, higher education, and primary schools, in addition to international links through Oasis Global partnerships.
The relationship we have with you-the parents and carers of our students- is extremely important to us because it’s only by working together, as a team, that your children can achieve their social and educational potential, and become excellent citizens, leading happy and rewarding lives when they leave the academy. We understand that, as parents and carers, nothing is more important to you than ensuring your children have the best opportunities in life so that you can be proud of them. That’s why keeping your children safe and continually stimulated to learn is our top priority.
Oasis Academy Silvertown is at the heart of its community and wants to develop all its students to become leaders who will transform and give back to their local community. An outstanding school is where everyone associated with it works together as a team to help your children achieve their academic and social potential so they are ready for university and their dream job.
Oasis will develop a community ‘Hub’ around the new Academy in partnership with local statutory, community, and voluntary organizations. Oasis Hubs are centers of activity that provide integrated, high quality, and diverse services to benefit the whole person and the whole community. In Silvertown, drawing on Oasis’ experience of nearly 30 years in family, youth, and community work we will adopt a holistic approach, offering a diverse range of provision to students, their families, and the wider community, for example, holiday clubs, youth groups, debt advice, and a Foodbank.
Each student's education is a careful balance between practical training and academic learning. Students at Oasis Academy Silvertown study all the National Curriculum core subjects. We are also developing more innovative approaches to teaching and learning. The Academy operates an inclusive admissions policy, accepting students irrespective of faith or ability.
