Nightingale Primary School cultivates an environment for life-long learning that celebrates the achievement of all children and acknowledges their strengths. We enhance the development of the whole child through high expectations, clear targets, and positive encouragement. We enhance learning by providing an exciting, creative, and culturally relevant curriculum. We enhance the community by working in partnership with parents, professionals, and other agencies.
Nightingale has a strong tradition of being supportive and caring. Our school is one where mutual respect, good manners, politeness, and high attendance and achievement is the expectation and this is shared by all our community. The Department for Education has reinforced the need for schools to ‘actively promote’ the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. This ensures young people understand the importance of respect and leave school fully prepared for life in modern Britain.
Nightingale is a diverse school. We actively promote diversity through our celebrations of different faiths and cultures, religious education lessons, curriculum, and choice of text, for example, Shakespeare to Benjamin Zephaniah. Members of different faiths and religions are encouraged to share their knowledge to enhance learning within classes and the school. The children visit places of worship that are important to different faiths.
At Nightingale Primary School the Governors strongly support a fully inclusive education, where special needs are appropriately supported and talents nurtured. We attach great importance to the pastoral care of our children and the development of a caring school is something which runs through all we do at Nightingale. If a problem arises at home which affects your child, you are encouraged to discuss the matter with staff. Similarly, a teacher may wish to discuss a problem in school with parents. Of course, all information of this nature will be treated in the strictest confidence.
We have very high expectations of our children’s behavior. We aim to develop self-discipline. We have school rules, rewards, and consequences. Positive behavior is rewarded and there are sanctions for unacceptable behavior.
