Liberton Primary School serves southeast of Edinburgh and was built in 1954. The school is a two-story build set in beautiful, extensive park grounds. We have recently had an outdoor classroom built.

At Liberton Primary School we are a ‘learning community’ where staff, pupils, parents, After School Club, and the local community all work together to further the aims and aspirations of our school.

At Liberton, we use the Co-operative Learning approach to enable our children to learn how to collaborate on activities successfully. We ensure that every child has an active role and that social skills are explicitly taught. We understand that learning is frequently most effective when learners have the opportunity to think and talk together, to discuss ideas, question, analyze and solve problems as a team.

An additional support need comes from anything which is a barrier to learning. Most of all schools will have some children with additional support needs of some kind. At Liberton Primary School we work very hard to encourage every pupil to realize their full potential and aim to provide a rich, broad, and balanced curriculum, to meet the needs of all our children. Teaching strategies include problem-solving, investigation, and discussion using a wide range of activities and materials. Pupils are taught either as a whole class or in groups, pairs, or individually so that the curriculum can be tailored, as far as possible, to fit the needs of each child. We are developing our use of enhanced group working through Cooperative Learning. The main areas of the curriculum are English & Literacy, Numeracy, and Mathematics, Health & Well Being, Social Studies, Science, Technologies, Religious and Moral Education, and Expressive Arts.
