Kingsbury Green is an oversubscribed, happy community school for children from 3 to 11 years, set in an attractive and well-maintained building. We enjoy extensive outdoor space so our children benefit from plenty of exercises and “out of doors” learning at all stages of their school life.
We were delighted to be awarded “outstanding” status by Ofsted in February 2016. This website demonstrates all that is remarkable and unique about our wonderful school and community.
Our school community is diverse in many cultures, faiths, languages, backgrounds, and abilities and as a result, our children are active and increasingly informed global citizens. Kingsbury Green children love to learn in many ways and show this through their impeccable learning behavior, willingness to take risks, and to take on responsibility and leadership.
We value and expect an open and active partnership with families so that together we ensure each child achieves their personal best having had an exciting, safe, and memorable learning journey here. As a reflective school, the curriculum content, resourcing, and ways children learn best are kept under constant review.
Our school importantly it is founded on values of citizenship and we continue to develop our teaching of history, geography, and the arts to ensure we are exercising children’s skills and knowledge as local, national, and global citizens. Our curriculum captures and explores what it means to live in and contribute to British Society through learning about democracy, free speech, and appreciation of the laws of the country, it is an alive and developing program of learning reflecting the rapidly changing world around them. As opportunities arise we may adapt and adopt new themes, topics, and aspects of interest for our children. Our children have told us that rightly, that they want to learn to be “fun” and to as have many opportunities as possible to learn together in different ways. Our goals in 2014-15 are to harness and embed different ways of learning and working together across all subjects. Our curriculum matches the needs of our learners –children may be taught as a whole class, in smaller groups, or on an individual basis. Increasingly too our learning is happening outdoors and off-site. Assessing children’s learning teachers plan to learn on a weekly, half-termly and annual basis.
Achieving our ambition to become a world-class school is the next natural step for Kingsbury Green. Our track record of ambitiously establishing a compelling vision and then systematically setting out to achieve this has brought great success for children and the community.
We are a “LearningFirst” school. This means teaching is driven by the assessment of pupils' needs. Our goal is to be rid of labels that define pupil “ability”. Our goal is to be rid of ability groups and any other form of the ceiling to children’s learning. We aspire to remove limiting language and practice from our pedagogy. We focus on our children, their profile, and identify and what kind of child we want to develop and build our accountability around this We create a core curriculum that matches our vision and enrich it accordingly. We make it explicit to children what we are aiming for and their role We ensure children trust us to enable them to be successful. Academic and pastoral support goes hand in hand – in partnership with families. We ensure consistency – all classes – each year group. We know that potential +personal motivation + opportunities and support = high achievement.
Our students are focused on building leadership capacity at all levels, and in developing the quality of teaching. Our students make outstanding progress from their starting points, in all subjects, including English and mathematics. Children in the Nursery have an excellent start to their education, they make rapid progress. They are thoughtful, highly motivated, and successful learners. The wealth of opportunities for them to take on responsibilities results in individuals who are mature and confident beyond their years. Our Partnerships are outstanding. The school reaches out to parents so that they are better able to support their children’s learning. Our students know that if they work hard they will succeed. They develop clear aspirations for career pathways for the future. They are exceptionally well prepared for life in modern Britain. Safeguarding is a high priority for all adults. Consequently, they are kept very safe and are taught how to keep themselves safe.
